Ring in 2019: Let creativity reign!

Let’s ring in 2019 in a forward-looking fashion! 2018 was a good year, but 2019 promises to be a real stunner!!! Goals? Did someone mention goals? Well, as I’ve stated before, I’m not really one to make formal goals at the beginning of the year, nor am I one to actually write them down! That doesn’t mean that I don’t make plans, and target things that I would like to do during the year!!! My plans are always broad, and sometimes a little airy fairy!!!! I spent so much time evaluating staff in my corporate life, that I could write …

November 2018 Bead Mat Update: Texture & Contrast!

When talking about my November 2018 Bead Mat Update, I think more about the differences, and less about similarities! I love techniques! Yes I’ve told you that before, but this time my words are matched by my actions. Do you want to see? First up on my November 2018 Bead Mat update, is the bezelled cabochon that I talked about in my last blog post. I lifted the next two photos from that post!! Now here’s the update! I beaded some more, then glued the backing on, so all that’s left to do is bead the edging. But wait! What …

Bead-A-Muse: What is this?

What do you think of the term Bead-a-Muse? Or perhaps I should call it Craft-a-Muse? I was actually thinking of writing about collecting beads, in this blog post (and believe me, I do!). However, my ideas tend to be fluid, so somehow collecting ended up as a post about Bead-a-Muse. When I Googled Bead-a-Muse, it came up with a variety of very different images, including dolls, some beaded objects, and a collection of miscellaneous images. Not exactly what I was looking for!!! Here’s my first muse – Fibrella!! Some have even called her my alter-ego! Could it be our inner …

Bead Embroidery: What the heck is it?

When I talk about bead embroidery, I’m normally discussing the intuitive type. However, that’s not the only art form out there! Image – Robin Atkins Where did bead embroidery originate? I’m sure that there are readers that will know more than I do on this subject, so I hope that those people (and you know who you are), pipe up with a little more information. I’d like to start with a definition according to Wikipedia: “Bead embroidery is a type of beadwork that uses a needle and thread to stitch beads to a surface of fabric, suede, or leather. Bead …

May 2018 Bead Mat Update: Two steps back, one step forward!

My May 2018 bead mat update signals a return to my roots. Fibre has always been my first love, and I must admit that I’m enjoying the process immensely. Did my Stitch Meditations have anything to do with my current obsession with fibre? I certainly expect so! What if I combined fibre, beads, embroidery, felting, and natural elements? Isn’t that what I’m all about? My muse was whispering insistently, so I just had to shut her up!! This stitched stone has been sitting on the sidelines for a while, but I decided to finish it off with freeform peyote, just …

Nature’s treasures: We’re all on the same page!

What do you think of, when I speak of nature’s treasures? If you’re thinking gemstones, you would certainly be right, but not in this particular context. I’m talking about all of the beautiful animals, we are fortunate enough to share our planet with!! I haven’t been able to see these magnificent beasts in their natural habitats, but admire them I do! My family visited from out-of-town, and one of their many adventures, was a visit to the Toronto Zoo. They invited me along, for the trek! I bet you’re wondering what the heck this has to do with beading? Patience, …
