August 2019 Bead Mat Update: All mixed up!

My August 2019 bead mat update is about how mixed up I get! When I’m creating that is, but that’s not what it’s all about! Resin (Ice Resin), Coral branch fringe, Twinchies (2” x 2” little pieces of art), and small mixed media tags don’t have much in common, but I’ve been working on all of them! Does that make me strange, or just quite suited to my mixed-up media title! We had a blast at my resin class! But then, we always have a blast in that class. Collage, and resin are perfect companions, but this time, I even …

Sparkle it Up!

What does sparkle it up mean to you? Is it for special occasions, when you want a little something extra to lift your spirits? Or is it something that you secretly crave? Bling is very personal! Not everyone is comfortable wearing it, but it always catches your eye. I’ve never been a real sparkle girl, but I admit to making a handful of pieces. I have always felt the pull to bezel a crystal or two, but just haven’t found the time to fit it into my discretionary creative space. This is one of my older pieces, that was made …

Playing with Clay: Exploring my options!

I’ve been playing with clay, then rummaging around in my stash. Too much fun!! Quick Cure Clay, from Ranger Ink, is an interesting, new product (developed by John Pojman). I’ve worked with both polymer, and metal clay, as well as Apoxie Sculpt, Crystal Clay, and Artist’s Concrete. All have their good, and bad points, but none is quite as interesting, unique, and sometimes frustrating, as Quick Cure Clay (QCC). It’s a great product, but does have some ‘quirks’ that you need to be aware of, before working with it. It’s soft, sticky, you need to use nitrile gloves, and it …

July 2019 Bead Mat Update: Clay, bead and stitch!

My July 2019 Bead Mat Update is hot, hot, hot! It’s actually the weather that’s been hot, hot, hot, but at least it’s cooled down now. Mid-30C + high humidity, is just not nice!! Stitch, beads, and Quick Cure Clay have been my main art focus in July, but then what else was I going to do when it was so hot? Playing outside, for long, was not an option!! I’m going to start with my ongoing love affair with Amulet bags. They’re designed to hang around your neck, hold small treasures, then serve as an unusual piece of jewelry! …

To Write or Stitch: What’s a girl to do?

Write or stitch, that’s certainly a dilemma! What the heck would you do? No paper is sacred! I write on yellow post-its, envelope scraps, the odd napkin, books (shudder), and even the back of invoices. The real trick is to figure out how to catalogue those notes, before they get swept out in the trash, but while they’re still current. I love to write, but have never had a great desire to journal about anything! Nope, not kidding!! But, I do confess to being a rabid writer of notes. You know, a scribble here, a scribble there, but then you …

Secrets and Treasures: We all have them!

Secrets and treasures, but what would the world be without them? A very dull place indeed! Who doesn’t have special little bits and pieces, hidden around their home? Do you take them out and fondle them, or just feel safe, knowing that they’re hidden away from prying eyes? I say enjoy them! Wallow in the memories! Air them out, let them free, dream about them, but keep them close to your heart! What better way to do that, than to make an amulet pouch? I’ve been thinking about amulet, or talisman pouches for a while, but hadn’t settled on how …

Canadian Content: Plus, a little U.S.!

Canadian content is a must, due to the fact that we just celebrated Canada Day! I hope you don’t mind that it’s all about me!! I worked on Saturday, but then had three whole days off in a row! No Canada Day celebrations for me, but I did provide all of the Canadian content in this blog post! It was a lazy, but busy weekend! I’ve felt rushed lately, so needed a staycation. I did nothing that I had to do, but everything that I wanted to do. Reading, napping, stitching, beading, visiting friends, and even a little TV watching. It’s …

June 2019 Bead Mat Update: Blue, with a dash of red!

Time for my June 2019 Bead Mat Update! I haven’t actually been doing a lot of beading, but I have a suspicion, that’s about to change!! I need to do some beading, but then there’s also Stitch Meditations, Ice Resin, and that giant package of Quick Cure Clay. What’s a girl to do? I’m not ready to expose my Quick Cure Clay to my blog readers yet, but it should be ready for a July unveiling. All I can say right now, is that it’s interesting to work with, is sticky, smells a bit, yet takes colour really well. It is …

Denim Dreams: What do they mean to you?

I believe that denim dreams are a state of mind! We wear them, we love them, but do we accessorize them? Now, that is the question? I know that denim dreams come in many colours, but I’ll refer to the blue variety, for this blog post! I grew to love it in my school days, so that’s what I’m going to talk about today!! Today’s denim is a heck of a lot more comfortable (but we were kids, so what the heck did we know?), and you can even buy them with ragged holes!! In my day, you needed to …

Mix it up!

When I say mix it up, what do you suppose I mean? I’m not really sure, but it’s a subject that we’re going to explore! I call myself a Mixed-Up Media Artist, and that’s because I like to play with just about anything. Beads, paint, alcohol inks, stitch, fabric, resin, concrete, paper, stones. Also, enamel, polymer clay, felting, metal, rusty objects, and even driftwood. But is there anything else out there that I’m missing? Well, I’m not really into knotting (except for pearls), have never done any lampwork, and have had minimal experience with wire wrapping, metal clay, and metalwork …
