Time to Fly a Kite!

It’s time – time to soar, time to be up, up, and away. Time to get some perspective, rise above the crowd, go where the wind takes you … in short – go fly a kite! The new kite beads are here – two hole beads with a diamond shape that fit together in cool ways. Also new this week – some more of the metal beads on strands. In Bright Copper, and bright Gold Plated, these reasonably-priced metal beads give you a chance to really go to town with your designs. They are hollow, and plated copper, so they …

Backlit GemDuos this week at BeadFX

GemDuos! A new shaped bead – similar to the DiamondDuo. They are pretty close in size, the holes are a little closer to the bottom of the bead in the GemDuos, and while they are a little shallower than the DiamondDuo, the higher placement of the holes in the DiamondDuo means that both will sit at the same height in your beadwork. The principle difference, however, is that the GemDuos do not rise to a point on the top like the DiamondDuos, they have a flatter top. There is an excellent review of them here, showing the same patterns made …

InspirationFX: Chained in Copper

Get your creative juices flowing~~~ Chained in Copper Designed by: Rochelle Kilmer Plain and simple. Dress it up or dress it down. Little black dress? No problem!? Jeans, blouse, dress, or even your pj’s! ?I love the look of this chain and just had to do a necklace with all of it. 🙂 Well not all of it – I left some if you want to make one too! I found some corrugated copper circles that paired nicely and off I went to designing the necklace. Instruction: 1) I attached the 2 sizes of corrugated circles together with a 4x5mm …

InspirationFX: Sexy Hexy

Get your creative juices flowing~~~ Sexy Hexy by: Anne Marie Desaulniers I was filling an order for a customer, and minding my own business, when what did I spy, but some very sexy little hexagon findings. I immediately decided that I should make a bracelet out of them, then set about searching for just the right components! I danced about the store, trying this and rejecting that, until I was satisfied with my choices. Simplicity was the key, so I chose a very earthy, and harmonious palette. Sexy, but understated, with a little metallic leather thrown in, to spice it …

Copper Clay Update

It’s about time for a little update on my copper and bronze experiments. I’ve been focusing primarily on copper, as I much prefer the colour. I’m sure most of you know by now my love for all things copper 😉 Turns out the problems we were having with firing were primarily due to the kiln. I’m now firing with a Paragon Firefly, and a Paragon SC2 – both are dream kilns! I’ve had no problems at all using either kiln. The ash in the kiln is still an issue – see pics below. That said, it really isn’t all that …

Playing with copper

Last night, we had our monthly Ontario Art Clay Addicts meeting. The topic this week was copper, specfically Hadar Jacobsen’s Copper clay in powder form. You can get a 100gm tub of powder for $20 US. Big price difference from the silver! There were 9 of us last night, and we mixed up 2 100 gram tubs. Mixing the copper powder was no big deal, and probably only took about 10 minutes total. The powder is nice to work with in that getting the texture you need is pretty easy to do. The first batch was drying out a bit, …
