Rhinestone Snowflake Madness

by: Dwyn Tomlinson

If you caught my Monday blog on Cool Tools to make Designing with Rhinestones Fast, Easy and Fun, then you pretty much know what to expect here.

If you haven't, you might want to bop over there and see what cool tools we have to make designing your own iron-on Rhinestone Transfers super easy.

We have another tool here for you - a PDF that you can download with a grid on it to make it easy for you to design your own snowflakes. (Download Rhinestone Design Grid). (The grids as shown below may not print at the right size, so download the PDF to make sure you get the right size print-out.)

When making a snowflake design, I start at the center, and make the upright and horizontal arms first - then add details in between, and then add to the original arms, alternating back and forth until I'm done, or have run out of room, or rhinestones, whichever comes first.  Check out the colour-coded diagram below. If you lay out your design as follows, you can see the pattern build up with out losing track of where you are.
Design was developed in this order:

SS 16 and SS 20 size stones (4 and 4.7 mm respectively) are a good size to start with, as they are large enough to be easy to manipulate without too much frustration. SS10 (2.8 mm) is a nice accent size to go with either or both of these sizes.

Have fun and go crazy!

(The netting-effect that you can see in the photos is the transfer sheet - I haven't applied these to anything yet - not entirely sure where my iron is - and besides - did you know that we have a professional heat press for applying hot-fix stones in the store? We plan to make it available for you to use for a small fee or included with significant purchase of stones or with classes. Ask us for details.)

Looking for ideas to items to hot-fix rhinestones on? I saw some inexpensive scarves in the mall today that would look great with a snowflake or two applied to the ends. Bling up an outfit or makes a great gift. Winter is blah - add some sizzle!
