Who is the Best Dragon Collector in the land?
More fun with Swarovski crystal letters, Apoxie clay and ooooh - MetalFX!
I've been dying to make something with these awesome compacts - not that I actually wear make-up much, and am more likely to use a compact as a signalling device (you know, flashes of reflected sunlight - morse code, etc.) than for touching up lipstick. That, however, is not the point. The point is, it has a dragon on it, and therefore, it's good.
- Start by planning your design. As you can see - mine changed a bit - but I had a good idea of what I wanted to do first.
- Glove up and mix a ball of Apoxie clay. About the size of a walnut.
- Place it on the compact, and start pressing it out to the edge. I used a plastic bag to help make it press out smoother and without fingerprints
- Press the decorative elements into the clay. I placed the dragon (cut the loop off first), the first branch, and as the second branch stuck up a little where it overlapped the first, I rolled a sausage of clay and filled the back of the 2nd branch - so there would be no gap behind it where it crossed over the 1st branch. I placed the initials and pressed them in firmly.
- Add the MetalFX. I started with the Sapphire Eye in the centre, then the Honeymoon Bay over that, and a bigger circle, then the same with the Sea Turtle and the Wild Lime.
- Press the MetalFX down into place with a cotton swab to ensure good adhesion, and making an interesting texture at the same time.
- Clean up any smears and smudges of clay before it hardens.
- Leave to harden overnight.
- Brush/wash the excess MetalFX away after the epoxy clay has cured.
