You just can't stop me from adding beads - even to laser-cut leather! The openings in the leather area perfect size for 8/0 seed beads. I've used a southwest colour theme, but feel free to change it up!
Use simple bead embroidery to embellish laser-cut leather reminiscent of a Navajo blanket design.
Instructions:
Trim length and width of suede strip to cover the laser-cut portion of the leather strip, extending it about 1/2" on either side of the pattern. Using the E6000, glue the suede to the back of the leather ensuring that the leather bridges within the pattern are also glued in place. Allow to dry completely.
Pull and cut a comfortable length of Fireline; thread the needle. Knot the tail end the thread using a quilter's knot or similar.Stitch up from the back of the bracelet through the suede so that the knot is in end of the chevron (not in the centre of the V). Pick up five size 8/0 beads: A, B,C, D, D. With the beads on the thread, lay the beads down in the chevron so you can see the space they will take; it should fill one side of the chevron filling the centre. Stitch down through the suede securing the beads in place.
Stitch back up through the suede into the chevron so that your needle come out right beside the bead D you placed. Pick-up 4 size 8/0 beads: D, C, B, A. As before, with the beads on the thread, lay the beads down in the chevron so you can see the space they will take; it should fill the remaining space of the chevron. Stitch down through the suede securing the beads in place.
Continue to stitch beads in the remaining chevrons. You can jump your thread from chevron to chevron if you wish or knot off and start each chevron with a fresh thread.
Note:because of the tiny differences of sizes in beads, you may find extra space within the chevron; don't worry about it, it will not be noticeable in the finished product.
Continue to stitch beads in the remaining triangles. You can jump your thread from triangle to triangle if you wish or knot off and start each chevron with afresh thread.
Half ChevronsStitch up through the suede to the front of the bracelet so that your needle comes up in one of the corners. Pick-up five size 8/0 beads: A, B, C, D, D - the order of the colours will depend on the direction you are going; you want to continue the overall pattern you have created in the chevrons.
Note: because of the tiny differences of sizes in beads, you may find extra space within the chevron; don't worry about it, it will not be noticeable in the finished product.End Triangles
Stitch up through the suede to the front of the bracelet so that your needle comes up one of the side corners. Pick up one drop and stitch down into the opposite corner.
