Design by Dwyn Tomlinson
Chain is hot these days - the chain mail look is hotter, but for those of you, like me, who are chain-mail-impaired - try this quick and easy bracelet - you'll be finished and out shopping for more beads while your chain making friends are still opening jumprings!
Component list below.
| approx 12 inches | Chain - 8 x 11 mm Large Oval Links - Bright Silver-plated (foot) You could do this in sterling instead of base metal as well. Or try a different style of chain. Or, if you are out of chain, you can link jumprings together in short lengths. | |
| It takes me so long to get around to making anything, what with keeping the site uptodate - that I have a tendency to make jewelry with items that are out of stock - The beads I used for this are long gone, as they came from my private stash. | ||
| Flat ovals - approx 10 mm long. I used 8. Your milage may vary. | Glass Ovals - 9 x 12 mm Flat Oval - Jet (25) or any others from the same page. | |
| a handsome clasp | Sterling - Box Clasp w Stone - Sleek Oval - Faceted - Garnet (1) or similar | |
| approx 12 inches | Softflex (tm) Beading Wire - 30 ft .019 (Medium) - Silver Grey (Spool) | |
| 2 crimps | Sterling Crimps - 3 mm Tornado Crimps - Sterling (50) | |
| crimp covers are not required, with the chain, you won't see the crimps at all | ||
The key to this bracelet's look is short lengths of chain, threaded on beading cable. You may need to experiment to find out how long the short pieces need to be to look good, if you are using a different chain.
|
|
Make lengths of chain. I used 1.25 inch lengths, which is 6 links. This chain's links are not soldered, so you can open them to separate the lengths of chain, instead of cutting. Chain this heavy needs heavy duty cutters, not your flush cutters. Open and close the links by twisting to the side - never pulling straight out. |
|
| I just lay out the components before stringing to get a sense of how they will look and fit. | |
| Then string the components. Thread the softflex through each link of the chain, add a bead, add another length of chain, and so on. | |
| Attach the clasp with crimps. The chain will slide over the crimps and hide them very effectively. | |
