Over the Top Thai Silver - Necklace

Design by Dwyn Tomlinson

This is a truly one of a kind item - made to feature my own hand-made glass beads and my love of silver - and my over-the-top sense of design. I can't exactly list the components - as many come from my stash, and as for instructions - well - here is a guided tour and a look at the back!

Components:

Close up. Mostly because it just so yummy to look at!

As with most of my designs - I started in the centre - with the focal point and the most fun part, and then filled in on each side - but I will take you on a tour starting at the side.

Construction consists of a basic chain and wiring dangles to hang off it. On the back - a second style of chain with larger, open links makes it possible to hook the handmade clasp into chain, for a variable length.

The hook is not very complicated, and is made from a very heavy wire (14 gauge).

There's nothing very complicated about most of these - a headpin, spacer beads, and lampwork bead, and a wrapped loop can cover a lot of territory.

Some of the Thai silver flowers have two loops on the back - so I've used the second loop to hang a dangle from.

Some items are just suspended with jump rings.

Those with a bail or side to side hole, can be wired up like this.

The centre component consists of three large flowers, hung from the chain with jumprings. (Below - pink arrows.)

But, they didn't want to hang straight, and kept twisting around - until I took a short piece of heavy wire and threaded it through the second loop on the flowers, (Orange arrows) and twisted the ends around to secure it.

Additional dangles added a fuller, more complete look.

Still more lampwork beads added behind, add even more depth and dimension.

That's it - be inspired!
