Fairy World - Necklace

Design by Dwyn Tomlinson

My dear friend Sue came back from Tucson with a bead for me - a large lentil shaped hollow bead made in Venice. It's handsome red stripes and puffy lentil shape put me in mind of the planet Jupiter. A world - a new world - but who would live there? How about a magical fairy? Sitting on top of the world?

Component list below.

Supplies needed

Large focal bead - gift from friend (ok, you may have to buy or make your own. )

1 Bali Sterling silver - Classic Headpin (1) Make sure it is a long one, depending on the size of the focal bead. The end needs to not pull through the hole and come out the other side.

1 Sterling - Bead Cap - Fairy Sitting Crosslegged (1)

1 Sterling Silver Snake Chain Necklace 18 in - Choose a length that you like. Sizes are even numbers and measure the entire length of the chain including the clasp. I like these snake chains because the loop for the clasp is small enough to go through some beads. (The chain shown is heavier than the ones we stock, but also retails for more than twice as much - so it is not a regular stock item. But, if you must have it, we can get it. Just let us know. )

4 Seamless Round Sterling - 8 mm (1) I used smaller ones to fit better next to the Fairy, and at the ends.

4 Seamless Round Sterling - 10 mm (1)

6 or an even number from a strand of … Lampwork Silver Foil Donuts - Assorted (strand) Coordinate with the colours of your focal bead.

Tools needed

Flush Cutters - to cut headpin

Round Nose Pliers - to wrap loop

Crimp pliers - good for tucking in the wrap on the headpin

Chain Nose Pliers - Medium - hold wire and help with wrap

Put the focal bead on the large headpin, add the fairy beadcap, and make a generous sized loop with a wrapped loop. Add a smaller sterling round, then half the lampwork donuts, alternating with larger rounds, and then a with the smaller rounds. Add your pendant, and the rest of the beads to finish.

A large jumpring or split ring can be added to the loop for the clasp if you like - it prevents the beads from sliding off the chain if you are inclined to drop things.
