Golden Glory - Multistrand Necklace

Design by Dwyn Tomlinson

Making a multi-strand necklace is easier than it looks. With beads this large, you can pull this together in a couple of hours.

Component list below. Detailed Instructions are on the multi-strand necklace technique page.

Supplies needed

1 Focal bead of your choice, in topaz and gold colours. This is a handmade lampwork bead with encased pure silver foil. (The silver appears gold because of the colours of glass used. (These beads are available in-store, but not currently online, as each one is unique.)

7 x Swarovski - Top-drilled Bicone - 6301 - 8mm - (1) - Topaz

1 full strand F/P 9mm Donut Rondelles - Topaz (25)

2 full strands F/P 7mm Donuts - Honey Mix (50)

1 package Czech 6/0 Seedbeads - 20g - S/L Dk Topaz Mt

3 x 25 inches, approx. depending on your final desired length SoftFlex - .014 Fine - 30 ft.

2 x Filigree Cone - Gold (1)

1 from … Chain extender - gold - pair

1 from … Split rings, gold, 5mm (10)

1 Lobster Clasp - 12mm - Gold (1) (or similar)

Approx. 2 x 2 inches from … Artistic Wire - 22 ga Non-Tarnish Brass 24 ga would work also, 20 might, but would be a little heavy. A long and sturdy headpin might work too - cut the head off so that you just have a straight piece of wire.

Tools needed

Flush Cutters - to cut headpin

Round Nose Pliers - to wrap loop

Crimp pliers - good for tucking in the wrap on the headpin

Chain Nose Pliers - Medium - hold wire and help with wrap

The details on making this piece are here. The strands are strung randomly, mixing the 9 mm topaz donuts, the 7 mm honey mix donuts, and the Silver Lined Dark Topaz Matt size 6/0s. By the time I got to the third strand, I was running out of donuts, so the third strand has quite a few more 6/0s on it.

A single top-drilled Swarovski bicone approximately halfway down the strand adds extra sparkle.

Each strand threads through the focal bead, and through the top-drilled bicone, and back up through the bead and onto the other side of the necklace.

The top-drill sits nicely at the bottom of the bead and secures the strands.

The hole of the focal bead easily accommodates 3 strands of the fine softflex.

And there you have it - a dazzling necklace in an evening. Enjoy!
