Simple Heart Earrings

Quick and easy project using glass beads, sterling silver headpins, 2mm, and 4mm beads, and sterling silver earring findings.

Tools Required

  • Round Nose Pliers
  • Wire Cutters
  • Flat Nose Pliers
  • Jeweller's File

Supplies Required

  • 2 sterling headpins
  • 4 x 2mm round sterling beads
  • 4 x 4mm round sterling beads
  • 1 pair of sterling earwires

Step 1

On each headpin, thread on in this order:

  • 1 2mm bead
  • 1 4mm bead
  • 1 Glass Heart
  • 1 4mm bead
  • 1 2mm bead

Repeat the above for the 2nd headpin.

Step 2

Using your wire cutters, snip off the excess wire, leaving about 3/4 to 1 inch of wire on each headpin. You'll need this wire to form your loop and wrap the wire.
Using your flat nose pliers, make a right angle turn about 3mm from the top of the last bead on your headpin.

Step 3

Take your roundnose pliers, and hold the wire between the pliers about midway or fairly close to the end of your tapered round nose pliers. You don't want too large of a loop. Hold the excess wire and form a loop with the pliers. You may need to straighten out the loop at this point. If you do, gently turn your pliers in the opposite direction until the loop is stright. You should still have some excess wire at this point. With your fingers smooth the excess wire in a coil just under your loop. Make sure that this loop fits in snugly with your beads.

Repeat this process on the second earring. You should now have two safely closed loops and now you just need to attach your earrings findings.

To open up the loop on the earrings, make sure you you open them from side to side rather than pulling them up to open. Bending the wire completely out of shape can weaken the metal and may cause you wire to break. Slide in your beaded headpins and close up the loops on the earring findings.

That's it! This probably took you less than 15 minutes to finish.
