Rainbow Cuff

Design by Marg Yamanaka

Instructions by Dwyn Tomlinson ©2004

(Instructions only - no kit. Feel free to modify the design for your own taste.)

Well, looks like I started something. When Marg (our buyer) saw my Rainbow Bracelet - she thought she'd have a go at a variation of her own. So here is her Rainbow Cuff, made with 6mm round Swarovski's, 3-hole connectors and memory wire.

Tools needed

  • Heavy duty Wire cutters, suitable for memory wire
  • Round nose pliers

Supplies needed

  • 3 x 1.25 coils of bracelet size memory wire. (Buy memory wire on this page)
  • 32 x flat, 3 hole connectors (Connectors are findings, on this page) Idea, what would this look like with some of the decorative connectors?
  • 31 x 3 colours of Swarovski 6mm 5000 series rounds (hey, why not try this in just 2 or 3 colours as well as 31-derful colours. (Get your 6 mm Swarovski rounds on this page.)

Making the bracelet

Start with the 3 separate coils of memory wire. (Cut your wire into 3 equal portions, about 1 and 1/4 coils) Use the round nose pliers to coil a loop at the end of each wire. The wire is hard to coil, so you might want to practice on a spare piece first.

Thread each wire into each hole of single 3-hole connector.

Thread a single bead of the same colour onto each wire. (See below for the colours and the order.) Follow with a connector. Continue alternating beads and connectors until you have enough for a bracelet, or you run out of beads.

Add your last connector, and coil the end of the wire into a tidy loop. The memory wire doesn't want to coil up nicely, so you have to use some muscle to get the loops. However, with a little practice, you can do it easily.

Thread the beads in the following order for the optimum "rainbow" effect:

  1. Crystal
  2. Jonquil
  3. Lt Colorado Topaz
  4. Lt Smokey Topaz
  5. Dk Smokey Topaz
  6. Indian Red
