Making Stretch BraceletsMake stretchy bracelets that don't need a clasp by using a stretchy cord. StretchMagic is one brand, Elasticity is another, stretch silk is another product. They are all super-stretchy, lightweight and surprisingly strong. Use it to make bracelets, necklaces, hairbands, or other decorative items, such as beaded collars for lamps, wine bottles, and candlesticks (do not expose to direct heat). Stretchy-bracelets make great beginner projects for teens. Secure the stretchy-cord using a crimp bead (you can just squash straight across) or by tieing a knot. A good secure knot to use is the surgeons knot.
The stretchy-cord comes in a number of thicknesses - choose the thickest that you can use and comfortably thread through a bead. Generally, you use stretch cord without a needle, as it is stiff enough to poke through a bead hole by itself. Do not use it with very heavy or very valuable beads, such as lampwork beads, or with any bead that has sharp-edged holes that can cut through the cord.
