The Business Chat – Steps to Success!

Take yourself seriously.  If you don’t treat yourself as a professional no one else will. Same goes for your business, if you think of it as just some little thing you do on the side and not as a business, then that’s what it will be.  Charge your customers what you’re worth  Nothing will sink you faster than undercharging for your work. By pricing your work too low you send the message that it has no value. And you won’t be able to pay your bills, let alone yourself.  Make sure your customers know who you are and what you …

Inspiration Friday

Welcome to our newest version of Inspiration Friday. We thought we’d made a few changes, namely allowing folks to choose their own inspiration, and the biggie – we give you a lot more time! If you would like to participate in the next one, see the end of this post for complete details. I love the idea of using an inspiration palette to base your design on. We all tend to stick with our own comfortable colour palettes, and this is just such an easy way to expand your range. I recently came across a lovely handmade bead that I’ve …

Do you dream in colour?

Do you dream OF colour? Summer is about colour – fabulous, riotous colour. Warm sunny weather is a license to throw demure colour palettes out the (hopefully) open window and go bold! Go Bright. Be Electrifying!  If you are in love with colour – then wait till you see this – Swarovski Neon Pearls. Three new colours of “pearls” in colours so vivid, so intense, so incredibly summery – you can practically roast a marshmallow over them. You could definitely roast a marshmallow while wearing them. If these aren’t a license to drink wine and eat s’mores – I don’t …

Metal Smithing Class

Once we moved to our new location – we had space to do some of the things that we’d been dreaming about for a long time. One of the things that we really wanted to do was add a dedicated metal smithing studio – because – for some reason – teachers of other classes get all snippy when they have to share a room full of metal smithing students all practicing the art of hammering. It most unreasonable of them, but we can’t seem to convince them that the sound of ringing hammers bashing metal onto anvils is a gentle, …

The Business Chat – 7 Pointers for Craft Show Success

Make sure you are in the right show. Research the show before you apply! I know this requires work about a year in advance and we aren’t always that organized, however, this single step can save you oodles of wasted time and money. If you have fabulous handmade work with a modern style you don’t want to end up in a buy and sell Victoriana-flavoured event. If you can, walk the show the year before you go. If you can’t, then get the vendor list from the previous year (always on the show website) and check the other vendors online. …

beadFX on Pinterest

Well, you knew it was bound to happen at some point. Although, I will admit to limiting my time there – as I’m sure many of you know, it can get completely out of control. 😉 We’re starting to fill our Pinterest boards with our inspirationFX designs, tutorials we’ve written on the blog, colour inspiration, stunning pictures of beads, and anything else that strikes our fancy. Hopefully your jaunt around Pinterest will also inspire you to make something for Inspiration Friday! I’ll be accepting submissions until Thursday June 28th – send them to jennifer@beadfx.com
