Hollow Forms in Metal Clay

June 9, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

$155.00

Course outline: The strongest form in nature is the sphere and in this workshop with Liz Reynolds youll learn why, and how to make non-sphere forms just as strong. You’ll learn how to construct an internal architecture that prevents hollow shapes from sagging. Included are two variations on constructing regular hollow forms (squares, rectangles, circles) as well as using irregular shapes, such as stones, to create asymmetrical hollow forms. In this class we will use Prometheus clay.

This will be a very focused one-day class. Kiln firing and tumbling is included with this class and a demonstration, accompanied by written instructions, on how students can further finish fired work independently.

Skill level: Beginner

Prerequisite: Some experience with metal clay is helpful but not necessary.

Technique: Creating hollow forms; assessing when to include an internal architecture for support; assembling forms; sealing, sanding and refining form; embellishing.

Bring to class: Prometheus clay; metal clay tools if you have them. Tools will also be available in the studio.

Of special note: the class patterns and instructions from our classes are for your personal use only. Please respect the intellectual property of our artists/instructors by not sharing, selling, or teaching the patterns you receive from the classes you take.
