Introduction to Metal Clay

October 19 @ 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Cdn $145.00

Course outline: If you’ve ever been curious about the wonderful world of Metal Clay, this is the introductory class will give you all the basics … and then some!

Join Liz Reynolds to learn how to form and texture this malleable metal which, once fired, becomes a solid piece of bronze, or copper, or silver. Metal Clay takes texture wonderfully and we will experiment with a wide range of texturing methods.

You will also learn important basics like conditioning clay when it becomes dried out, and what to do if fresh clay straight out of the package is a bit sticky, as well as a simple technique for determining when the clay is “just right.”

You will also learn how to construct and attach a variety of bails, both hidden and as a part of a pendant design.

Finishing methods will be demonstrated and complete written instructions provided.

Skill level: Beginner

Prerequisite: N/A

Technique: Metal clay properties and important differences between base metals and silver, texturing, construction, sealing techniques, attaching a bail.

Bring to class: 50 gram package of Prometheus metal clay (Jeweler’s Bronzes or copper) available at BeadFX. Bring metal clay tools, if you have them. If not, they will be supplied at BeadFX.

Of special note: the class patterns and instructions from our classes are for your personal use only. Please respect the intellectual property of our artists/instructors by not sharing, selling, or teaching the patterns you receive from the classes you take.
