Plique-a-jour with Fine Silver Metal Clay (2 days)

April 13, 2019 @ 10:00 am - April 14, 2019 @ 5:00 pm

Cdn $190.00 +Kit fee: $50, payable to the instructor the day of the class.

plique-a-jour-2-500wCourse outline: Plique-a-jour is a style of enamelling that uses a delicate metal framework to support free areas of transparent glass. Because plique-a-jour has no metal backing, it is visually similar to a stained glass window. While this technique is beautiful, it is arguably the most challenging form of enamelling. In this class, students will create fine silver frames for plique-a-jour using metal clay. Multiple approaches to enamel application will be covered.

Note: this is a two day class and will be held Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14; 10:00am to 5:00pm each day.

Skill level: Advanced. Patience and steady hands are required!

Prerequisite: Experience working with art clay silver.

Technique: Designing colourful jewellery or components using fine silver clay and glass enamel.

Bring to class:

  • Fine silver clay silver (any brand will work)
  • Personal Art clay tools (important tools include slats, pin tools, files and sanding foam)
  • Ceramic paint palette
  • An unused, natural hair brush as tiny as you can find; 000 or smaller. If a small natural hair brush is not available, a small synthetic brush is preferable. I personally like the Dynasty Micron brush line.
  • Personal sketchbook and pens / pencils

Of special note: the class patterns and instructions from our classes are for your personal use only. Please respect the intellectual property of our artists/instructors by not sharing, selling, or teaching the patterns you receive from the classes you take.
