T-Fold Cuff

March 26 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Cdn $45.00 +Kit fee: $15, payable to the instructor the day of the class.

Course outline: This class with Liz Kennedy is an introduction to making a T- fold in sheet metal. In this beginner-level class, you will learn how to size a cuff (approximately 1″ wide) and make the T-fold (a style of foldforming), forging your metal into shape. You will learn to apply heat with a torch so the folds can be opened. You will trim, file and buff the pieces. You will form the metal into a cuff. Once completed, you can apply a patina, if desired, to give added richness and bring out the texture. Alternatively, if you do not want a cuff you can choose to make a pendant and earrings from your metal.

Skill level: Beginner

Prerequisite: None

Technique: An introduction to a T-Fold for fold forming of sheet metal. Sizing a cuff. Hammering and texturing the metal, opening a fold. Annealing metal using a torch if required. Forming a cuff. Applying patina to metal.

Bring to class: Ear protection. Ear wires if they are making earrings. If you have them: metal shears, chain nose, flat nose and round nose pliers, flush cutter, leather or rubber mallet, ruler, thin Sharpie marker, planishing or ball pein hammer, drill press vice. Studio tools will be available for use by students if they do not have them.
