February 2020 Bead Mat Update: Where did the beads go?

My February 2020 bead mat update is more than a little different! But don’t panic yet, because the beads, in the BeadFX coffers, are safe!! I must confess, that I’ve been more than a little pre-occupied these days, but that’s because of my March schedule. It’s more than a little full!! As it’s a leap year, I’m also lumping February 29th, in with March. So, you see here’s my sad tale of woe. I’m teaching my Needle felted Landscape class on February 29th, then Resin on March 1st. I’m taking my show on the road, mid-March, then teaching three different …

Sweetness and Light: An ode to the heart!

Sweetness and light, is probably the best way to describe Valentine’s Day! But is it? What do you know about Valentine’s Day, and do you celebrate it? I have many sweethearts in my life, but none of them are romantic. Does that make me a Valentine’s scrooge of sorts? Probably, but if it does, I’ll just shrug it off, and continue to live my singular life! I have one website for you to visit for fun facts, then another one for myths. All very interesting, but is that all there is? No, the greeting card companies did not invent Valentine’s …

Bugs and Critters! Aren’t they delightful?

Bugs and critters fascinate me, but I must admit that I’ve never beaded one. I know, never say never, but I know that my talents rarely lean towards the realistic. Heck, I don’t even draw them! Well maybe a ladybug or two, but nothing more complicated. One of my favourite bead artists, is the late, great April Zobel.  We met on the early days blogging days of the Bead Journal Project, then I was absolutely enthralled by her beaded bugs and critters. Her mastery of the subject was obvious, and her humour was always present. Why is it that the …

January 2020 Bead Mat Update: Bluesy news!

My January 2020 bead mat update, is a work in progress! Also, I forgot to photograph some of my pieces on a bead mat, but that doesn’t worry me one little bit! My Explorations in Freeform Peyote class ran last weekend, and this is the project that I worked on. Yes, another stone, but with a different colour scheme, and I’m beading again!!! My arm was a little achy the next day, but I managed to bead, while holding a stone in the palm of my hand. Quite a feat, but then who doesn’t want to bead, holding a weighty, …

Itching for Stitching!

I’m itching for stitching, but that’s not a lie! Luckily my elbow feels pretty good now. I’m still putting weight on it gingerly, but stitching is no longer out of the question. However, I think that my get up and go, got up and went! But that will only slow me down, but will not stop me completely. My friend and I, have plans to make some slow stitched needle books, yet all we need is a little time. Of course, I also need to dig out some supplies, but that shouldn’t be a huge problem. I have an infinite …

All About Blue: Plus a few colours!

All about blue, but what’s not to like? Every year Pantone announces its colour of the year, yet this is the lucky year they chose Classic Blue! .“A timeless and enduring blue hue, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue is elegant in its simplicity. Suggestive of the sky at dusk, the reassuring qualities of the thought-provoking PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue highlight our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era. Imprinted in our psyches as a restful color, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue brings a sense of peace and tranquility to …

Challenge Yourself in 2020!

Challenge yourself in 2020, and a new vision will come! Okay, that’s enough of the 2020 vision puns for me, but I’m sure that Dwyn will be taking it a whole lot further, so I’ll let her carry it through the year. I learn by osmosis, so I may not be able to help myself, but I’ll certainly try. The end of this year has been quite challenging for me, since I slipped on the ice. It’s amazing how a small elbow crack, can hamper the work that you do. However, you make do, because nothing else is possible! Self-pity …

December 2019 Bead Mat Update: and more retro!

My December 2019 Bead Mat Update is still a little sparse, but I’ve fleshed it out with more retro photos. Words will still be shorter than normal, but definitely longer than last week! My friend Diane was de-stashing, and mailed me a few goodies from Texas. As soon as I spotted this experimental handwoven piece, I decided that I needed to create something with it for Christmas. But I didn’t really want to cut into it, so decided to stitch it to a piece of my precious St. Armand watercolour paper. Recognizing my limitations, I simply stitched it on for …

Of Things Past: A photo retrospective

Of things past will be a blog post that’s very light on words, but heavy on photos. I slipped on the ice, and broke my arm, but not a bad break, so only in a sling, and not a cast. Thank goodness for small mercies! I’m trying not to over do, so here are the photos. All mine, and made many years ago!!! No Stitch Meditations, some from my pre-BeadFX life, and past, and present BeadFX classes. No Bead Journal Project pieces either. Surprise, surprise!! I hope that you enjoyed this of things past post, and I hope to be …

Is it time yet? I believe that it is!

Is it time yet, but why do you ask? It’s actually past time, but then that’s something that you’ll just need to deal with. Of course, when I ask “Is it time yet?”, I’m alluding to the fact that the holidays are drawing very close, but what does that mean to you? For me, it’s Christmas, but depending on your family, religious, and personal traditions, many of you, celebrate other winter holidays! It’s all good!! “Is it time yet?”, also means have you made your holiday gifts yet? Part of my holiday tradition, is to make a few handmade gifts …
