Course outline: Mokume Gane is a Japanese term used to describe mixed-metal sheet that imitates the look of wood grain. In this class you will learn how to use pre-made copper and brass metal billets (fused stacks of layered metals) to create a customized sheet of woodgrain patterned metal. The patterned metal will then be used to create a simple domed pendant, or seamless ring. Students will receive a 1″x1″ piece of 14ga copper/brass mokume billet to pattern as part of the class fee. Bead Crochet Patterned Rope

Course outline: In this class with Christine Woollacott, students will learn how to create a beaded rope using single stitch bead crochet. Single stitch bead crochet can be increased to diameters of more than 12 beads, and therefore it offers a high degree of pattern and design possibility. In this class, students will string beads and begin creating a patterned rope bracelet. Starting and finishing a project will be discussed, though a bracelet may not necessarily be completed within the time of the class. Best of Both – Silver metal clay textures and soldered construction (2 days)

Course outline: While silver metal clay is a wonderful material to work with, on occasion it is simply easier to use traditional metal work techniques to achieve a design. This class will focus on how to combine wonderfully textured metal clay elements in traditional metalwork designs. No longer worry about calculating shrinkage rates in rings, or whether a bezel will shrink too much and no longer fit the stone intended for the design. Course outline: In this class with Christine Woollacott, students will learn the Korean decorative metal technique of Keum-boo. Students will learn how to fuse high karat gold foil to fine silver plate using pressure and low heat. Once the metals have been fused together, a rolling mill texture or patina can be added to create simple charm pendants or earrings.
