OOAK – Pyritized Ammonite Negative

Wow. Just wow. This is not a fossil – rather it is an ancient imprint of the place where an ammonite shell once rested. A fossil footprint, so to speak. The imprints became impregnated with pyrite (hence the term pyritized), giving us a gleaming metallic impression of where a shell once sat in the mud. Wouldn’t you like to have one of these one-of-a-kind items? Now THAT is something different. Also, stunningly different. This amazing Specular Hematite cabochon. You might have to see this in person to see the wow factor. This one takes my breath away, not in a …

Cat’s Eye, Chakra, OOAK Cabs, Bit of a Hurry

Sorry folks – working on something BIG and suffering from a bit of a time crunch, so brace yourself, the update is coming atcha at the speed o’ light! Hang in there. Cats Eye & Eagle Eye This lovely shimmery natural Cat’s Eye is a far-cry from the man-made fiber-optic beads that are also called Cat’s Eye. Nothing wrong with those, they are pretty and fun, but this is the original, the inspiration, so to speak. And this will look amazing in your own handmade jewelry, whether you are making something office chic or evening elegant. Or for just making …

Labra-Oodles

Not Labradoodles – but oodles of Labradorite! I have to tell you – Labradorite is one of our most popular stones. I think the thrill of finding good labradorite is unbeatable, and it is quietly beautiful with flashes of brilliance, as opposed to flashy and in your face. Like having a secret super power! There is something mystical and magical about it’s misty depths and inner glow. This week, in addition to our existing variety of beads, we have some breathtaking One-of-a-Kind Labradorite pendants. And I do mean breath-taking! There is a legend, according the the interwebs, (so it must …

A Dessert of Rocks, and I have an Impression there is a Sale

Ah, modoms et monsieur! Zo good to see you again. Zis week – we have more stones for your dining pleasure, and a sale, BUT, ah must hasten to add, NOT a sale on the stones. Ah just wanted to clarify that up front. 😉 I zink you will find the sale, riveting and it will make an impression … But first, dessert. Because life is short – we must eat dessert first, no? Can I interest modom in zome icy Rutile Quartz rounds? A zesty blend of frosty quartz and delicate inky rutile inclusions? Or perhaps zome of ze …

Big Hole Stone, OOAK Pendants, Guru Beads

This week – we are all about those stones. We love all our beads – our collection of crystal, our stash of seedbeads, but oh, those stone beads. Like children – they are all special, but though we won’t admit it, one is a little more special than the others. 😉 Big Hole Stone Beads For leather. For cord. For whatever you want to put them on. Stone beads with larger than usual holes to take a 2 mm cord. Or, how about a Stone Pendant? Each one unique. From Azurite to Amazonite/Red Creek Jasper to Ocean Jasper to Shattuckite. …

October 2018 Bead Mat Update: This and that!

My October 2018 Bead Mat Update was almost a bust! Once again, I don’t have that many finished projects to show. Sigh! What’s up with that? Then I started to list everything I’ve accomplished (err, purchased) in the month. That’s where it all began. I spent Thanksgiving up north, with family! During that period, I did manage to re-string a necklace, and finish another of my Stitch Meditations (#97). The necklace is a combination of Czech seed beads, and some Rose Gold plated Hematite. I loved the combination, when I spotted it on the wrist of one of our customers! …

Stoney Stuff

Old Stoneface has struck again and we have some of your favourite stones on deck this week. We have tourmaline – which is tourmalicious. Tourmaline means many-coloured, and from cream to butterscotch to strawberry to berry to licorice – tourmaline is many-flavoured too. Labradorite, labradorite, can’t get enough of that labradorite! Also classic – Amethyst! Dog Tooth Amethyst, with it’s distinctive jagged bands of white and cream, and the classic purple amethyst too. But, with either one, remember to not store them in sunlight – UV light will fade your amethyst. (I found this out the hard way – I …

OOAK – One of a Kind

One of a kind items. We know that it doesn’t make a lot of sense from a business perspective to put “One of a Kind” items on the website. We know that people shop on other sites – like etsy – for one of a kind items. But we also know that you trust us, and some of you like to get all your stuff in one place. And gosh darn it – we live in a big country, and it’s not possible for all of you to get to the store. 😉 Plus, our buyer is a genius. So, …

Leather & Rocks.

First off – I know that leather is not everybody’s “thing.” I know that some of you are so not comfortable with leather. That’s ok. But I have to say, if I had to name my top five favourite scents in the world – the smell of leather is going to be on that list. Frying bacon, fresh cut grass, wild roses, warm horses, lavendar, and lilac would also be duking it out for top spots on the list. And this is that kind of leather – 1 meter strips of super-intensely coloured, sueded-on-the-back, buttery-soft, luxurious leather lacing. In a …

‘Tis a Rocky Road We Travel

It’s a rocky road indeed, full of toil and whoa – look at this! Is this some Labradorite I see before me? Why, yes, yes it is. We are blessed with an unusually fine selection of Labradorite today. Pendants and faceted stones – to go with our existing rather nice Labradorite clasps. You can do the whole Labradorite thing! I’m not trying to buffalo you – but we have also some more of the White Buffalo Stone, or White Howlite, in both polished and matte finishes. Howlite is often presented dyed as an imitation Turquoise, or by unscrupulous vendors, actually …
