Designing with Components: A different approach!

Is designing with components a new way of looking at things? It’s not entirely new for me, because I’ve been making components for years. However, I don’t exactly use all of the components that I’ve made. My component list is quite varied. I teach freeform peyote beads, resin, cement filled bezels, needle felted pendants, and intuitive bead embroidery. In the past, I’ve also taught paper beads, altered dominos, paper pendants, altered washers, birdhouse pendants, fibre and wire beads, freeform peyote, driftwood pendants, and a motley selection of mixed media bits and pieces. But then there’s also the components that I …

Totally Random Thoughts and Photos!

Occasionally, blog posts need to have some totally random thoughts, and I’m okay with that! A funny thing happened last week. While packing for a class a while back, I discovered that I had lost one of my bead embroidered cabochons. I searched, and searched, but the class had to go on without it!! While I was re-organizing supplies last week, I found the cabochon in a totally random box of paints!! How the heck did it get there? I must have been carrying it, when it slipped out of my hands, and into the open box, because there is …

September 2018 Bead Mat Update: A study in contrasts!

When I started thinking about my September 2018 Bead Mat Update, I thought that I really hadn’t accomplished much this month. But I was wrong! During the “Back to Class” event, earlier this month, I played with the Freeform Peyote Bracelet, that I had started in my last class. I need to decide on a closure of some type. I think one of my bead embroidered buttons, will finish it off nicely. Rose Gold Plated Hematite rounds, pair nicely with these Czech 6/0’s, to make a simple necklace. This one is around 30″ long, and will look maaavelous dahling, with …

Artful Layering: Let the fun begin!

Artful layering is something that I just made up this morning. Someone, somewhere has certainly used the term before, but possibly not about jewelery? The almighty Google did find a few things, but I believe that my jewelery reference could be pristine! I just couldn’t find another one! I don’t mean the popular Boho look, but something simpler. I’m talking about layering two or three coordinated necklaces, of different lengths. Say a silver chain, with a fibre mixed media piece, with a lovely lampwork bead. Funny, I wore that combo on Monday!! Serendipity, and not planned! That aha moment, when …
