Do you feel lucky?

I recently discovered some articles that discussed luck and creativity and if they are related. One view indicated that people who considered themselves ‘lucky’ general found more opportunities in their day-to-day life while ‘unlucky’ people missed opportunities because they were too focused on something else. As the author put it, “Luck is not about how life looks at you, it’s about how you look at life”. It makes me wonder if I am missing some creative opportunities because I’m not paying to attention to ‘bigger pictures’ around me. By being intentionally observant, we can see unusual colour combinations that we …

Moving into November

So, Halloween in just around the corner; autumn leaves have changed colour and some parts of Canada and the United States are already experiencing snow. What’s next? Well, the holidays! Now is the time that many people are thinking of what holiday gifts they need to buy for family, friends, teachers and colleagues. How about hand-making a gift instead? It won’t necessarily save you money, but it will be more personal and thoughtful than a store gift card. It will be unique because it won’t be available anywhere else. It is an opportunity to share your special talents and skills. …

Get inspired by fall colours and classes!

I was recently up in the Ottawa area of Ontario and the leaves were just starting to develop their fall colours. Already the sumach and maples where showing bright red with yellows popping up on poplars. As the weather cools, we’ll get to see the full range of autumn colours. Fall is my favourite time of year and triggers inspiration for new projects – or reworking old projects with a new idea. BeaFX’s early-October classes are full of inspiration! We welcome visiting instructor Kaska Firor for six wonderful wire weaving classes. You say you don’t have wire experience? Not to …

Celebrate your Creative Achievements

Graduations. Proms. Weddings. Anniversaries. For many, these are life’s milestones and opportunities to celebrate life with friends and family. Do you celebrate your achievements? Accomplishments can be large or small or even ‘steps along the way’ to bigger successes. Celebrating your accomplishments can boost your confidence, help to stave off burnout, and fuel your continued success. In the midst of Open Bead Night and Afternoon Bead Tea, I often hear “oh, it’s just a necklace”, or “it’s just a pair of earrings”. Please, never ‘just’ your accomplishments! You’ve spent time; you’ve applied learning; and you’ve put yourself into your designs. …

Do What You Love

February is known for its holidays (such as Groundhog Day) and regular events (Super Bowl and Academy Awards), but nothing is as iconic as Valentine’s Day. The day’s historical origins are varied and are linked to romantic relationships. As a single person, I’m turning it focus on what I love to do – such as beading and other activities. Certainly there are lots of classes to do BeadFX! Polymer clay, enamelling on fine silver metal clay and wire working take the spotlight in our mid-February calendar. We are also pleased to announce that Open Bead Night will take place every …
