Sliced, fossilized ammonite. Ammonites lived in the seas some 240 to 65 million years ago, and went extinct along with the dinosaurs. Their descendants have come down to us as cephalopods, most notably the nautilus - with whom they share their distinctive spiral anatomy.
The backs (outsides) show a hint of the fossilized remnants of the pearly lining of the shells. The fronts (insides) show the wonderful spiral geometry. Matched pair. No hole. Each pair a little different.
25-28mm x 28-30mm By the pair.
