The wire guard slips on after the crimp bead, your beading cable goes through it, add your clasp, go around the curve, back down through the crimp. Secure the crimp and bingo. Essentially, it is like using french wire, but it is a rigid piece. It stops abrasion from sharp components on thread and beading cable. And, your beading cable is protected and hidden for a very polished look. You can use with thread, silk, or beading wire.
