InspirationFX: Pip Jangles

Pip Jangles  by: Anne Marie Desaulniers Get in touch with your inner hippie, with these light and lively “Boho” inspired earrings. You could even pair them with gauzy tops and well-worn blue jeans, for a retro-sixties look! This project uses more of the leftover Pips from my prior two projects (“Pip, Pip, Hooray” – Pendant & Earrings; “Pip The Magic Dragon“ – Bracelet), Firepolish crystals, eyepins, Fireline and closed Jumprings. And I’m not even finished with the Pips yet! Talk about the bead that keeps on giving! Directions: These earrings contain two elements, that when connected, make the 7 dangles …

Semi-Glaze Toho 15/0s & Swarovski Pastel Pearls

and one really awesome chain! Chain first! Love this chain! Fat and sleek and strong – this is a super handsome chain that stands on it’s own – or looks great with a pendant or large-hole euro-style charm beads. Would also make great guy-jewelry! Don’t dawdle – half the staff is drooling over this. Next up – Semi-Glazed Toho 15/0s – a new finish from Toho – a light matte-finish, gently textured, with a hint of soft earthiness – you’ll find this amusing little bead to be an attractive addition to your beading palette! 😉 We’re starting out with the …

What’s on my bead mat – July edition!

We’re having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave”, so what better way to deal with it, than a long, cool drink, a few beads, and some mixed media items? Once again, I’m all over the place artistically, but that seems to be a huge part of my creative process! I facilitated two completely different workshops this weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed both, thanks to my eager and talented students! Who knew, when I was living the stressful corporate life, that I would get so much pleasure out of sharing my creativity? I always knew that there would be a “Plan …

Kids Can Bead!

By Cindy Goldrick It’s summer and that means you will have kids or grandkids moaning that age-old refrain: “I’m boredddddd….”  As a kid I learned quickly that if I uttered that phrase I’d be quickly dispatched to do yard work so I did my best to keep a low profile and keep my brain and my hands busy. Besides memories of hiding out, perched in a cool tree reading and eating a handful of raspberries from our bushes, my fondest summer memories are of using the scraps I could find to make clothes and furniture for my dolls and as jewellery …

InspirationFX: Purple Picasso

Purple Picasso by: Lee Metsalo The more you look at Picasso’s paintings, the more you see.  The more you look at Picasso beads, the more patterns and colours you see, the more you move them, the patterns and colours morph,  you can get lost in them for hours.  Is it purple?  Is it green?  Is it…… In this necklace, each component is the series of beads assembled on a headpin, and then the components are linked to the chain.  The bighole donut is kept centred by sticking a smaller bead inside it to keep it stable.   String all the beads …

Toho Demi Rounds!

They’re here! Size 8/0 and size 11/0 Toho Demi Rounds! This is a new shape – a sort of “half-width” seedbead, from Toho, developed in conjunction with Nicole Starman. You can see some samples of how they work up on their blog – these are so new – there isn’t even much of them on pinterest yet! However, what we are seeing so far is some very interesting ideas with this chenille stitch pattern – also by Nichole Starman. So if you’d like to leap in and experiment with these – who knows – you could be the next person …

Bodacious surfaces to bead!

Have you ever dreamt about beading on alternative types of surfaces? Sure, it’s easy enough to purchase bead backing, but why leave it at that? This post will be an exploration of sorts, but then again, what else would you expect? In my early Fibre Art Days, beads often added the sparkle needed, to ‘tart’ up a quilted piece. I certainly didn’t use beads on every piece, but here are some shots of a few of my favourites! I’ve beaded on cotton, silk, wool, velvet, paper, and even on fabric paper! The “silk” category alone, is chock full of sumptuous …

Copy vs Creation

Humans are born copycats. How else would we learn how to smile, walk and talk, if we didn’t watch and imitate the people around us? But copying is only the first step. Once we copy, then gain confidence and ability, we add our own personality to everything we do. The same is true of creating and art. Most of us begin our artistic journey learning the basics — by rote, as they say of the ABCs. Then, once we have the basics down, we move on to embellishment and variations — we put our own stamp on a pattern or …
