InspirationFX: Festive Sea Urchin

Festive Sea Urchin by: Dwyn Tomlinson These earrings feature the traditional festive Sea Urchin which has long been … wait – what do you mean? You’ve never heard of the Festive Sea Urchin? The glorious sea urchin that rises like a shining star from the waters of the pacific and brings holiday treats to all the good little children? Really? That’s sad – you’ve led an deprived life. Anyway – even if you don’t believe in the Sea Urchin – these lovely, lovely stones are actually a variation on the rivoli, and will fit in any of the rivoli settings. …

InspirationFX: He Said She Said

He Said She Said by: Dwyn Tomlinson Bust up the gender sterotype by wearing a mismatched Mars and Venus earring pair! Mars doesn’t understand Venus anyway – and when he’s on the other ear – he’s too far away to hear! Super simple and quick to make too! Position the stone into the finding and gently bend down the tabs (prongs) to hold the fancy stone in place. No glue required. I prefer the nylon jaw pliers so that if they slip, I won’t damage the crystal! Add earwires, and you are done! Done like Dinner!       Components …

One of those Days …

I swear – this is one.of.those.days. Everyone I have interacted with today agrees – it is one of those days when the best plan of action would have been to go back in the house, put your pajamas back on, and go back to bed. If this description fits you to a “T” – then take solace in this week’s crop of new beads – Tee Beads. No – that’s not the kind of bead that you find at the bottom of your tea cup after the cat knocks over your latest project – although, as I said …

What’s on my bead mat – December edition!

It’s that time of year again! Lots of activity on the bead mat, but not much I can show right now. However, I do promise you a post-Christmas update, just to catch you up on all of the goodies. For now, I’ll show you some of my personal projects instead! Let’s start with my persnickety purple princess, shall we? I’ve apparently had a breakthrough on this doll, and her voice is getting increasingly louder. As a proper girly girl, she wanted to be festooned with flowers, and would accept nothing less! I used seed beads in sizes 11 and 15 …

Looking Ahead to 2017

It is hard to believe that another year is about to start in only three weeks! We’ve held a lot of classes at BeadFX and have introduced ourselves to many new students and welcomed lots and lots of established students who repeatedly come back to multiple classes. We’ve brought in several visiting instructors and have enjoyed the projects of our faithful BeadFX instructors. While it’s nice to reminisce about the ‘good’ times, it is also important to look ahead. First of all, THANK YOU for constantly supporting our classes! It is a pleasure to be able to connect with so …

Monograms in wire

By Cindy Goldrick I mentioned in an earlier blog post that I was making presents for friends and family this year and that people would be getting steel wire ornaments or broomstick lace cuffs. Well, I taught myself broomstick lace in my leftie way, but I’m not ready to move on to smaller projects yet so I decided to throw myself into what I know better — steel wire and designing on the Now That’s a Jig! I set about creating letter ornaments for my great nieces and individualizing each letter to reflect their loves and unique personalities. I’m really …

Ancient Symbols and the End of the Wait for the Endless Loom!

Venus and Mars are alright tonight! Swarovski’s offerings of these ancient symbols – Venus (yes – I photo’d them upside down, sorry) – the circle with a cross – used in Astrology for Venus, in Alchemy for Copper, and in Biology for female. The male glyph, a circle with an upward pointing arrow – because, as it was euphemistically explained to me once – “Gentlemen go to heaven” – ha! – represents, Mars, Iron and maleness. What is especially nice is with these smaller ones – 18 mm – we also have mounts with rings so that you can …
