2018 – Live Purple

2017 is on it’s way out the door – and a lot of people will be happy to see it go. Pantone has declared that the 2018 colour of the year is Purple. Actually – they are calling it Ultra Violet – but, to the best of my knowledge, you can’t actually see Ultra Violet unless you are a bee – A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future. Nevertheless – Pantone 18-3838 “Ultra Violet” is a very pretty shade of blue-purple violet – a …

December 2017 Bead Mat Update: Ending the year with a whisper!

My December 2017 Bead Mat Update, is the perfect ending to the year! My muse is quietly whispering in my ear, and that bodes well for 2018! Did you make any holiday gifts this year? I did, but not as many as previous years. Why, you ask? Timing, inspiration, lazy muse, work, or perhaps just a lack of steam! All contributed, but no excuses allowed. Unfortunately, no photos of my away gifts, but here are some simple earrings I made. Isn’t it amazing, how you can turn sparkles, and a little sterling chain, into a simple, but elegant gift? I …

Kick off 2018 with a Resolution to Learn

Do you make New Year Resolutions? Personally, I find they focus so much on the negatives we need to change rather than the positives we want to bring into our lives. Learning is like that. We know that learning something new will make us feel better, give us a challenge and give us more positive energies. Yes, as the class coordinator I’m biased, but I like it when I’m on the other side of the table learning from someone who is enthusiastic about teaching me about something I want to learn. As we’ve done in previous years, we are holding …

Try on these size 9/0s!

Another 20 colours in the size 9/0 3-cut seedbeads. If you are loving these size 9/0s – just a smidge smaller than the 8/0s, not as small as the 10/0s – then you will be happy to see even more colour choices! And, of course, the 3-cut facets make them just that more sparkly and rich-looking! Rough Chunks of Peruvian Chrysocolla We’ve had these for a while, but they were only available instore. These are one-of-a-kind – handsome chunks of rough, raw, stone. You can wirewrap them, or cut and polish them, depending on your skill level and expertise! Or, …

Tangled Techniques – and other stories!

If the truth be known, I’m all about tangled techniques! The tanglier (of course, that isn’t a real word), the better!! There’s not really much that I haven’t tried. I doodle, but do not tangle (as in Zentangle). I paint, but mostly Gelli print. My stitching life is not current, and I neither knit nor crochet. Collage and Eco-printing are favourites of mine, but I do not scrapbook, or make cards. I do know how to draw and sketch, but do I do it now? Not often! Resin is a definite yes, but I’m sadly behind on my artist concrete, …

InspirationFX: Simplicity in Red – Two

Simplicity in Red – Two Designed by: Anne Marie Desaulniers Though minimalist in style, this set will create quite the impact! A compliment to the “Simplicity in Red” necklace, that was posted a few weeks ago. As the holidays tend to be busy, it’s important to have something simple, to accessorize either that little black dress, or a cozy sweater, and pair of jeans. A fairly economical solution, as you will be using many of those leftover components from the earlier “Inspiration”. You will need to buy another package of the lovely Scarlet faceted rounds though! Instructions: 1. For Bracelet …

Snake Wind and Snake Berry

We’re not above the occasional fart joke around here – and I have to admit, when I saw that these beads were called Snake Wind, well – I’ll just let you imagine what streets my mind wandered down. Snake, however, is actually the name for the finish that gives it the darkened edges to the facets, giving the beads a distinctive scaled look. The Berry mix is obvious – and Wind, well, why not? They are part of the new 4mm fire polish beads this week, including the Nebula finish, and these metallics. And this Fuchsia! I have to admit …

A beaded surprise! Plus other whimsies.

What better way to resolve a gift giving dilemma, than completing a beaded surprise? I drew our fearless leader’s name, for our annual Secret Santa exchange! Yikes! What do you buy for a person who owns a bead store? It’s problem solving time, but then again, it’s an awful lot of fun!!! The $ limit is low, but we are encouraged make a handmade little something! Thinking cap on, then tune quickly to a beaded surprise. Yep! That’s the ticket! It’s not like I’m not personally flush with beads! Blush! A trip to the beach, a couple of weeks ago, …
