Play with Us in March

Yes, Spring is almost here and it’s time to come out and play! March wraps up with some new classes as well as the start to a new Creative Play Series. Angela Peace has two new classes in which she will teach the traditional method of knotting pearls and working with French wire. She is also teaching how to create cords – a must for displaying your favourite pendant. Liz Reynolds is teaching how to make bails using metal clay so you can create beautiful pendants that will work with a multitude of options (like cord!) Bonni Poch will take the mystique out of right-angle weave while you create a beautiful stone bracelet.

With an enthusiastic and on-going interest in mixed media, Anne Marie Desaulniers is starting a new series called ‘Creative Play’. While she had previously offered an open studio evening, we found that participants wanted a more structured session with the opportunity to learn new skills. The Creative Play Series will be an exploratory series, focused on out-of-the-box thinking, creative techniques, exciting materials, and mini-projects. It is not intended as a class, or workshop, but rather an open sharing of information, and technique taster, for those with curious minds! The focus will be on encouraging participants to take their work to the next level! Session 1 will focus on mono printing on paper, using a commercial Gelli Plate. You will receive links to make your own, homemade plates. You’ll also get lots of ideas on how to use prints for jewellery purposes.

As we have done in past years, BeadFX is providing jewellery for The Corsage Project; an initiative with the Children’s Aid Foundation, is a non-profit program in Toronto dedicated to giving the authentic prom experience to young women and men who would not otherwise have the opportunity to celebrate with their peers due to the high cost of formal wear. This year, their focus is on providing rings and bracelets for prom-bound young women. We will be asking participants in our late-March and early-April Open Bead Nights and Afternoon Bead Teas to help and we welcome any donations from the greater community toward this cause.
