They say that “April showers bring May flowers”, but is it too early to celebrate with a little floral jewelery? The weather is warmer, and signs of spring are starting to pop up in this part of the country. I swear that the tulips at the side of my building have grown at least two inches, in the last day. Finally!
Not being a girly girl, I don’t have much floral jewelery to show, but should I? Is this the only way I can broadcast my feelings, about my most favourite season of renewal? Should I make something entirely new? I could certainly encase more of my dried flowers in resin (see this example from my resin workshop, with a few others thrown in for good measure), but I collected those last year, and definitely in a different season (summer &/or fall)! Perchance to wait for the sweet smell of violets, or lily of the valley? Both personal favourites! Or how about cheating, by purchasing pansies and violas, as soon as the garden centres open up? My trusty microwave flower press (purchased from Lee Valley Tools) is ready and waiting!
Bead woven floral jewelery is magnificent, but I doubt that I would have the patience to construct something so persnickety. True confession time! I’m not very good at following other peoples patterns (but I admire those that do). What about free form bead weaving, intuitive bead embroidery, or a combination of both? They certainly suit my artistic style, but what would I make? A single bloom, or a bouquet? Fibre, mixed media, or 100 percent beaded? Choices galore!
Are you up for a little challenge? Would you be interested in creating a spring themed, piece of floral jewelery (or a small art piece)? I feel the need to create something new, and this might be just the thing to get my artistic juices flowing again! What about you? Won’t you join me? If you take up the challenge, please be sure to share your photos via an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. I promise to include them in a future BeadFX blog post! Include your name, and “Floral Jewelery Challenge from The Bead Muse”, in the Subject line. I guess that I need to include a deadline, so why not target the end of May for giggles sake?
Here’s an example of a necklace, that I spotted in a Google search. It’s certainly flowery!
No time this week, but my camera and I will definitely be hunting for spring over the Easter weekend! What are you planning, other than bunnies and eggs?
