Jiggles and Pearls

Get your creative juices flowing~~~ Jiggles and Pearls Designed by: Anne Marie Desaulniers Originally intended as Boho-inspired pendant, and designed to hang on a simple chain (it all started with the fabulous Inter-Change-A-Bail). However, “the best laid plans”, and all of that, made me re-think my original concept. Once the pendant was completed, I surveyed the remaining components, and decided to create a more formal design (the muse wants, what the muse wants!). The jiggly bits remained, so it turned into a fun, casual necklace, posing as something far more serious. A conundrum for sure! Readers beware! You are going …

Sweet, Juicy Nib-Bits

What could be a better way to celebrate the summer than with sweet and juicy nib-bits? Not nib-bits of corn, but this new bead shape. It is a two hole wedge shape new from Matubo and designed by Nela Kabelova. The shape is, in fact, a little reminiscent of candy corn!   Also new this week are some fancy metal buttons that remind me of Plumeria blooms. Buttons, in addition to their use for actually fastening things, are great for toggles and can also be used in other ways – as decorative elements or connectors. They are particularly nice …

July Bead Mat Update – To goal or not to goal!

My July bead mat update is all about working on neglected projects and supplies. Will I be able to attain my goals? I would like to finish something! Challenges are always good, and it will certainly be fun to try!! Why don’t I have time to finish all of my projects? Do I bite off more than I can chew? Or should I just blame it on the class samples I need to make? Each time I teach a class, I end up with at least one more sample to finish, and more than a few leftover supplies. Is my …

InspirationFX: Moon Princess

Get your creative juices flowing~~~   Moon Princess Designed by: Dwyn Tomlinson The soft pinks and blues of the Powder Blue Impression Jasper strike me as very soothing and pretty. I went to town and make a whole suite of items from this lovely stone. (Watch in the following weeks for my other combinations.) My first thought was to combine gold-plated metal findings and beads with the Powder Blue Impression Jasper, but I found I did not care for the look. The bright copper metal beads and finding – that was another story, however! The combination is gorgeous! The pinky …

Birds and beads: A spicy mixed up post!

The focus this week, is on birds and beads, but please excuse the pun! My “Fly Away Home: Birdhouse Pendant class” ran last Friday, and I thought that you might like to see the results. Five lovely students, good glue, flying paper scraps, all mixed up with a ton of creativity! We had a lot of fun, but let’s have the results speak for themselves. The evening was full of colour, laughter and imagination! Students pieces (Note: the screw eyes still need to be attached, for hanging): Shhh, don’t tell! Ideas for display include (but are not limited to) holiday …

Spread your Creative Wings

You can cultivate creativity – you don’t need to be ‘born’ with it. According to WikiHow, broadening your knowledge is one way of fostering creativity. For example, you have an idea for a bracelet that you want to create. If the bracelet is metal, do you need to know how to solder? If it is made of beads, what beads will work best and how can you assemble it? Like many people, you head to YouTube to check out the techniques. Yea, you found something! Unfortunately, the video isn’t in focus; the sound is muffled and you can’t ask questions. …

Bead therapy – Solutions for everyday woes!

Do you ever find the need for a little bead therapy? I don’t always require it, but do think and dream about it, on a regular basis. It allows me to see the world in a better light, and helps to keep my sanity in check! Everyday beading is therapeutic, but really not what I mean, when I mention bead therapy. Do you bead regularly? Would your TV watching experience be complete, without a beading needle in your hands? Do you spend more time choosing beads (that would be me), or clothes for a vacation? This sounds like everyday beading! …

Stash Management

If you’re like me, you have a stash of stuff at your home that is taking over your living room, back bedroom, dining room table, the basement, the crawl space under the stairs – any everywhere else you’ve managed try and get stuff out of the way. And of course you don’t have just one creative outlet! How about the fabric stash and the yarn stash? Now, this isn’t a discourse about …
