Most everyone has packed up their swimwear, bug spray and half-completed beading projects and headed out to the cottage for one last blast of summer. The city is half empty, and the traffic would be not too bad, except that the only other folks that haven’t left town are the construction folks. BTW – if you are driving to us west on Eglinton – don’t. Just don’t. Come along St. Clair instead. (Or use one of the apps that routes you around construction and traffic. I use Waze. It’s pretty good. )
While everyone is headed to the cottage, and so to speak – back in time – to simpler days with no internet, and in some cases, no electricity – if you are still at home – hiding from the heat – we have a journey in time for you too.
Let’s start with a look at the Unburied Treasure – a page reserved for beads that look lost in time.
This seedbead mix is “Anglo-Saxon Treasure” and the bigger bead mix is “Turquoise Hoard.” I think it is fascinating to think about how long beads have been in use and how universally treasured they have been. These would not look out of place in any museum exhibit about our forebears.
In the same vein – these cut 6/0s look vintage. They are old stock, to be sure – but not that old! But – they are limited quantities and so will not be restocked – when they are gone, you are out of luck!
If beads from pre-history is too far back in time, how about these Antique Styled English-Cut – which have more of an early industrial revolution look. Some, with their deliberately marked equator, standing in for a mold-mark, and antiqued or roughened finish – they also evoke days gone by.
Others, though – these multi-coloured ones – in the same shape but a fancier finish – are as modern as you could want. It’s all in the finishing!
And now, we are rocketing forward through time and space to the most modern of materials – new colours in this flat, non-leather, PVC banding. It fits all the 10 mm flat leather findings and beads (including the Tierra cast findings and rivets) – is tough and durable – water and weatherproof (so you could, say – wear it swimming, like, at the cottage!)
And so we deposit you back in your own time and space. As always – there is interesting new stuff all over the website – so check it out.
