Growing Pendants, Bezels, Flowers

The stunning new Swarovski “Growing” Pendants – inspired by crystal-encrusted druzies are here. Swarovski has really hit a home run with these – they are really quite wonderful! The largest of the Rhombus has a open space in the center – making it even more of an homage to natural stone! By themselves, with a bail – they will make a wonderful pendant, the smallest of the rectangles will make stunning earrings – or you can bead or string something to accent the colours and texture. Bezels – more bezels for your resining pleasure. Our Anne Marie is addicted to …

Jewelery Layering: Join in on the fun!

Isn’t it about time that you explored jewelery layering? You have boxes and drawers, stuffed full of unloved and abandoned jewelery! How about doing something about it? Image – connoisseurs.com I layer my necklaces, and bracelets, but if I wore rings, I’d layer them as well! I don’t layer earrings, but it’s okay if you do! I’m not a hippie, but I love jewelery layering! I also layer my clothing, as basic black, white, and grey, low necks, high necks, and turtlenecks, are all perfect backdrops for the layered look. Image – Etsy – InaraJewels Free those sad little necklaces! …

Help Us Help Others with the BeadFX Food Drive

Many of us in Toronto and the surrounding area are lucky! We have some discretionary money that we can spend on non-essentials that won’t impact on monies we need to pay our bills, rent or mortgage, and other necessities. Many in Toronto are not so lucky and are having problems managing the essentials. These individuals and families need to decide if money goes toward food or hydo or rent or anything else that may be required for daily living. Families are particularly hard hit because it means children go hungry. Another group of people whose needs are increasing are senior …

November 2017 Bead Mat Update: Exploring my options!

My November 2017 bead mat update, is all over the place! Should I blame the weather, the upcoming season, or admit that I need to play? I am full of creative ideas, but I’m not always organized! Both Intuitive Bead Embroidery, and Artist Trading Cards (using paper collage, paint, and stamps), are on my November schedule. Is it any wonder that I’m confused? They are very different animals, though both very freeform in nature! This piece is a sample from a previous workshop. I made the cabochon! Is it a landscape, or a seascape? Why is it so organized?? Where …

InspirationFX: Hidden Underwater Treasures

Hidden Underwater Treasures Designed by: Rochelle Kilmer Well, I think it is safe to say that summer has come and gone now. Fall blew us right into winter. Windy, chilly, snowy – not yet but I can feel it coming. I can’t help but dream of the water and sandy beaches. Or more so lately, I have been thinking about all the hidden gems people have found in the deep, dark depths of the water. Old ships, bicycle tires, messages in a bottle, pearls, jewellery, diamonds, coral reefs, sharks, octopus… There is a whole world down there many of us …

A study in contrasts …

This week – we are all about the contrast. I’ve been watching a lot of Bob Ross videos lately (The Joy of Painting series on PBS in the 80’s and 90’s – if you haven’t watched them – don’t let what you’ve heard put you off.) Anyway – one of the things he says repeatedly is that you have to have the dark to show the light. Or vice versa. The point is, that you need contrast to emphasis your design, your image, your story. Creativity is about contrasts. (Good article here about creative people and how they sometimes make …

Beaded Cabochons: Exploring the options!

I love beaded cabochons! Okay, I also love stones encased in silver, but for me, the beading part is far easier! Is this a problem? To be truthful, I only know a couple of ways to bead around a cabochon. That’s not to say that I couldn’t learn some other techniques, but perhaps I’m just a little lazy. I couldn’t be afraid of learning something new, could I? My go to, for stone cabochons, is the peyote bezel. I don’t know about you, but if I’m going to put all that work into a beaded cabochon, I want to make …
