When I sat down to write my July 2018 bead mat update, I realized that it would actually be posted in August! How the heck did that happen? The days are flying by too fast!!
First up on my July 2018 bead mat update is the continuation of my Stitch Bits/Stitch Meditations series. The one on the top of the pile is my latest, #77! Whew! My plan is to make 100 of these, then decide what the heck I’m going to do with them. Stay tuned!
I really needed some antique copper earrings, so wandered about BeadFX, hunting for findings. I’m happy with my selection, but to be honest, I didn’t satisfy the urge! So, I did some more shopping!! At least two more will be in the works, as soon as I can squeeze out more time from the continuum! Earring Palooza indeed!
I snapped up these large Apatite nuggets, just before they sold out! I haven’t had occasion to wear them yet, but they make an interesting statement. They haven’t been worn yet, but hopefully soon!!
While were on the subject of earrings, what do you think about the latest obsession (one of many), in my July bead mat update? Freeform peyote earrings!! I started with the grey/blue ones, moved to bronze, then totally lost my mind with the Carmen Miranda pair (I actually dreamt about them!). Amethyst signals a return to sanity, and I will work with the dreaminess of aquamarine next! Who knows where all this freeform will lead? Okay, it will initially lead to a workshop, but what about after that? I’m guessing something 3-dimensional, but I haven’t fully wrapped my brain around that yet!
Speaking of obsessions, how about stitched and beaded stones? I believe you’ve seen a couple of them before (see family photo), but take a look at the cream one I stitched up on Sunday (I drool over that colourway!)! Once I started, I just couldn’t stop! My hand is telling me, that although the stone is smaller than the palm of my hand, it was still too much to do in one day! But honestly, I did need another sample for the display case! Odd numbers are way more artistically pleasing!
Next up on my July 2018 bead mat update, are bracelets. Iolite and sterling, although a quiet combination, sparkles and looks lovely on the wrist!
I’ve had the sterling and turquoise bracelet for years (it was a gift), but shame on me, haven’t worn it all that often! The sterling flowers flip around, and it’s a little too large. Brainwave! Now why didn’t I think of shortening it, and changing the clasp? I will remove the current clasp, replace it with a lobster (clasp, not crustacean), then remove one of the sterling circles. I’m hoping that will take care of the flipping problem! I was told that the turquoise is from the Sleeping Beauty mine, so I really should give it more respect!
I’m quite satisfied with my July 2018 bead mat update! Initially, I didn’t think that I had accomplished much, but now I think I did! What do you think, and what have you been up to? Anything you care to share?
