Colour Play – All the Way!

It’s only going to get colder, so colour play is extremely important at this time of the year! Why do we need dark and dismal, when we could take a bath in colour instead? I know it’s a strange topic for a post, but it’s something that popped into my head this morning! If you look at my wardrobe, you’ll see a lot of black, grey, and navy blue (but mostly denim these days). Is this a leftover from the corporate years (not the denim), or perhaps a personal choice? I love colour, but I don’t wear it that much, …

Stay Connected with a Class

What kind of a December person are you? Do enjoy hikes and outdoor adventures in the fresh air? Are you more of a homebody curled up on the sofa with a good book? I prefer to stay indoors but I need to keep my hands busy so jewellery-making is a great activity. I also recognize the need to get out of the apartment and ‘meet the world’. Attending a class is a great way to stay connected with others as well as satisfy my own creative need. BeadFX’s early-December classes will all create beautiful gifts for family, friends – and …

Falling Leaves

by: Rosemary Beasley When I saw the two strands of the “freeform” tiger iron, I was inspired by their “leafy” shape to make a necklace inspired by the fall season. The tiger iron is streaked with slate, rust and little hits of mustard yellow making me think of November skies and falling leaves. The glass leaves and 2mm pearls add a lightness contrasting with the darkness of the tiger iron. Components http://www.beadfx.com/inspirations/inspirations.php?id=878

November 2018 Bead Mat Update: Texture & Contrast!

When talking about my November 2018 Bead Mat Update, I think more about the differences, and less about similarities! I love techniques! Yes I’ve told you that before, but this time my words are matched by my actions. Do you want to see? First up on my November 2018 Bead Mat update, is the bezelled cabochon that I talked about in my last blog post. I lifted the next two photos from that post!! Now here’s the update! I beaded some more, then glued the backing on, so all that’s left to do is bead the edging. But wait! What …

More OOAK Stone, New Gift ideas, Resin Pans, Vintage Glass Cabs

Big update this week – 90 new items! We have some more of the one-of-a-kind stone pendants for you this week. This is a nice way for you to get something unique, without actually having to go out for it. Which is not to say you aren’t welcome at the store, but realistically – most of you can’t get here. These two strands of Tigereye, for instance. Stunning. The beads are not what you’d call consistent – some more rounded, some fatter, etc. But the quality, the colour! So you can use the beads individually or tie them together with …

Bezelled Cabochons: What are they?

In the last week, I decided to spend a little quality time with bezelled cabochons? To bead, or not to bead, that is the question! Of course, that’s not really the question, as I have no intention of not beading!!! Yes, I could surround it with a silver, or copper bezel, but for me that would be too much work!! I know! Working with little tiny beads, isn’t really work, is it? I’ve had a love/hate relationship with bezelled cabochons for years. Take this one, for example: I probably started this piece at least ten years ago. A plus-sized Howlite …

Yes, the holiday season is coming upon us faster than we may want. Certainly the projects presented in the classes make great gifts, but so do the classes themselves! Big Hole Stone, OOAK Pendants, Guru Beads

This week – we are all about those stones. We love all our beads – our collection of crystal, our stash of seedbeads, but oh, those stone beads. Like children – they are all special, but though we won’t admit it, one is a little more special than the others. 😉 Big Hole Stone Beads For leather. For cord. For whatever you want to put them on. Stone beads with larger than usual holes to take a 2 mm cord. Or, how about a Stone Pendant? Each one unique. From Azurite to Amazonite/Red Creek Jasper to Ocean Jasper to Shattuckite. …

Bead-A-Muse: What is this?

What do you think of the term Bead-a-Muse? Or perhaps I should call it Craft-a-Muse? I was actually thinking of writing about collecting beads, in this blog post (and believe me, I do!). However, my ideas tend to be fluid, so somehow collecting ended up as a post about Bead-a-Muse. When I Googled Bead-a-Muse, it came up with a variety of very different images, including dolls, some beaded objects, and a collection of miscellaneous images. Not exactly what I was looking for!!! Here’s my first muse – Fibrella!! Some have even called her my alter-ego! Could it be our inner …
