Late Breaking News: Of the publishing kind!

I should have shared this late breaking news earlier today, but I simply forgot to include it in my earlier blog post! Dwyn wanted me to call it a “Hot Flash”, but I just wasn’t going there!  LOL! I’m excited to announce that two of my articles, that include six different jewelry pieces, have been published in the Summer edition (out in June), of the Belle Armoire Jewelry magazine!!! This is a high-end, beautifully photographed, artsy, teaching, mixed media, jewelry magazine, and it fits right into my wheelhouse! The publisher is Stampington & Company. I simply love this magazine, and …

May 2019 Bead Mat Update: Freeform, stitch, and stories!

My May 2019 bead mat update is late in the month, but then so is spring in Toronto! But here it is, and believe it or not, we’ve even had a few, very nice days. Not enough yet, but you learn to take what you can get! Nothing is better, than spending time with enthusiastic students! I love every minute of it, and it’s even better if you have something to show at the end of the day. My Freeform Peyote Beaded Bead class, last Sunday, was no exception! Of course, none of the beads were finished in the class …

TierraCast and Restock on Flying Stones

First the restock! Fancy Jasper (also known as Rainbow Jasper) restock – we haven’t had this in awhile. The translucency and glossiness of this stone kicks it up a notch from most jaspers. Restock on the Terra Agate that is so beautiful and was such a hit in April that it flew out the door! And restock on the Dzi beads – which also flew out the door! Are you at peace now – one with the universe now that you can get those beads you missed? Repeat after me – Ohhhm – Watt? Is meditating too shocking? Well – …

Woven Jewelry: Would that I could!

Woven jewelry fascinates me! I’m talking about artsy jewelry pieces, that have more in common with basket weaving, and knotting, than anything traditional. My friend in Australia, took a week-long class with Mary Hettmansperger. I saw the photos, then immediately rushed out to order as many of her books as I could find (thank you Amazon!). Mary comes from a weaving background, so it’s only natural that she would be a master at woven jewelry. She’s even written a book on it, “Fabulous Woven Jewelry: Plaiting, Coiling, Knotting, Looping, & Twining with Fiber & Metal”. Doesn’t that sound interesting? Believe me, …

June: Gateway to Summer Classes

I don’t think there is a busier and more anticipated month than June! Graduations; block parties; barbecues; and weekends at the cottage. Not to mention all the festivals and special events that abound! And, of course, we are getting ready for summer vacations. So what’s a person to do when they want to get away from it all? How about:1. Coming out for a class for something new! Once learned, many techniques are perfectly portable to take to the cottage.2. Treat your visitors to a class. Bringing a summer guest to a class with you will give you both a …

Moth-Man sighted at BeadFX

Oh my – the cater-pillar of society has transformed into the Goth Moth! What an amazing focal piece this is! We have a bunch of really awesome pieces this week – very limited quantities, so you know you won’t be seeing them on every neck on the street – BUT – you might have to wrestle the staff to get to them. Art Nouveau Lives! The sensuous spirit of Art Nouveau is alive and well and hanging out in the garden, all wrapped in vines and flowers. I just washed my hair and can’t do a thing with it! Really …

Playing Around and Finishing Up: True or False?

I’ve been playing around, but not finishing up all that many projects. It’s not because I don’t have any U.F.O.’s (unfinished objects), but rather that my mind has been occupied with other things. I do have stash enhancing projects! That’s what you call making stuff, that you add to your stash, to prepare for making other stuff, at some later date!! I’ve been doing that a lot! When spring calls, and I’d rather spend time out of doors, I tend to work on simple things. Like Gelli printing (mono-printing with a commercial gelatin-type plate), paper decorating, fabric altering, and all …

“May” all things be possible!

May is a month of celebrations – some very serious, such as Mother’s Day, and Cinco de Mayo, and some that are just plain wacky – such as ‘Star Wars’ Day (May the Fourth Be With You.) Late-May celebrations includes Victoria Day in Canada and Memorial Day in the United States. The best part is enjoying a long weekend with friends and family. To be honest, I’m finding that May is racing by; June seems to be right around the corner. Join me by living in the present and enjoying what is here and now – including upcoming classes with visiting …
