August bead mat update: Tales from the recycling bin!

I like to think that recycle, reuse, and repurpose, are the main messages in my August bead mat update! Serious words, that must play an important part, in the world we live in! When I dig through my quilting fabric boxes, I think of fabric twine (amongst other things). I always even off the selvedge edges, before I tear any fabric strips (call me obsessed!). Then I end up with a pile of colourful fabric strips, that are somewhat uneven! How could I let that happen? What the heck should I do with them? Are they useful, or not? Waste …

Forgotten treasures: Digging through the clutter!

Forgotten treasures, are not a thing of the past! Very much in the present for me, so I expect for you as well! If the horror be known, I’ve been having a little check and chuck, in my spare room/studio. Perhaps you know that figurative room? It might be a closet, drawer, desk, dining room table, under the bed, your basement, or even the garage (or all of the above)! The place of shame where you would like to create, but cannot, because of all the clutter. Would that I could, de-clutter in just one day! However out of the …

Pantone Fall 2017 Colour Trends – What are they wearing on the runways?

I’m certainly not an expert, but the Pantone Fall 2017 Colour Trends, seem to influence how we view colour, in both fashion, and jewelery! Watch for these colours!! You’ll see them in the stores, the street, and in magazines! According to Pantone: “Every season the team at the Pantone Color Institute evaluates the colours shown by fashion designers in their collections at New York Fashion Week. This information is then used to create the PANTONE Fashion Color Report where we highlight the top 10 colors for men’s and women’s fashion for the upcoming season. For the first time ever we …

The Freeform Wars! Peyote Stitch or Intuitive Bead Embroidery?

There’s something inside my head that I like to call the freeform wars. Should I start a new peyote stitch project, or how about Intuitive Bead Embroidery? I love both techniques, and I have a hard time choosing between the two! I’ve been up north the last couple of weeks, and I decided to bring a handful of my UFO’s (unfinished objects) along for the ride (see last Wednesday’s blog post). My head wasn’t into it! I chilled out with books, family, food, and nature! What more could a girl ask? But then I came home, just before the long …

Bead like you mean it: Adventures up north!

Are you a true bead fanatic? When you bead like you mean it, your beads will prevail, and your muse will be happy! Even though all of my creative goals have not been met (as laid out in last weeks blog post), I still plan to work on them. Ambitious goals are never a bad thing! Holiday activities require fluid plans! Change and challenge is quite often the norm! When I say bead like you mean it, it always brings Intuitive Bead Embroidery to mind. It’s one of my favourite beading activities. I reach for it first, and it’s my …

July Bead Mat Update – To goal or not to goal!

My July bead mat update is all about working on neglected projects and supplies. Will I be able to attain my goals? I would like to finish something! Challenges are always good, and it will certainly be fun to try!! Why don’t I have time to finish all of my projects? Do I bite off more than I can chew? Or should I just blame it on the class samples I need to make? Each time I teach a class, I end up with at least one more sample to finish, and more than a few leftover supplies. Is my …

Birds and beads: A spicy mixed up post!

The focus this week, is on birds and beads, but please excuse the pun! My “Fly Away Home: Birdhouse Pendant class” ran last Friday, and I thought that you might like to see the results. Five lovely students, good glue, flying paper scraps, all mixed up with a ton of creativity! We had a lot of fun, but let’s have the results speak for themselves. The evening was full of colour, laughter and imagination! Students pieces (Note: the screw eyes still need to be attached, for hanging): Shhh, don’t tell! Ideas for display include (but are not limited to) holiday …

Bead therapy – Solutions for everyday woes!

Do you ever find the need for a little bead therapy? I don’t always require it, but do think and dream about it, on a regular basis. It allows me to see the world in a better light, and helps to keep my sanity in check! Everyday beading is therapeutic, but really not what I mean, when I mention bead therapy. Do you bead regularly? Would your TV watching experience be complete, without a beading needle in your hands? Do you spend more time choosing beads (that would be me), or clothes for a vacation? This sounds like everyday beading! …

Stretchy bracelets and other fun stuff! Calm the creative mind with a little exploring!

Mentioning stretchy bracelets and other fun stuff, is a funny way to introduce a blog post, isn’t it? Do you remember that I wrote about the bracelets a couple of weeks ago? But that’s not all I did last weekend! My muse was so active, that I hardly had time to rest! Let’s start with the bracelets! While rummaging through my stash, I discovered a few strings of forgotten stones. I knew that they would be perfect for stretchy bracelets and other fun stuff! I made the paper beads a few years ago, but the tumbled nuggets, were purchased recently …

June Bead Mat Update: Just playing around!

I almost forgot about my June bead mat update! I don’t believe that I almost missed it!!! Also, how did I forget to include my bead mat in the photos? Bad muse, bad!!! June has been a strange month. Excessive heat, cooling periods, pollen allergies, headaches, rain, flooding, storms, sunshine, clouds, hail, and all sorts of weird in-between weather. When you combine that with a heavy dose of annoying roadwork, it’s really quite depressing. But did that put a crimp in my creativity? Not likely! Well perhaps a wee bit, but I’m working to overcome it. I was busy on …
