Blue Pearls and Rhyolite this week at BeadFX

More of these truly lovely Swarovski light and dark blue iridescent pearls. These fill in the gaps in the sizes from our first shipment of them. These really are beautiful – they have a two-tone iridescent shimmer to them that you really have to see in person. One of the nicest new items to come from Swarovski!   Rhyolite – a cream and green stone with hints of a warm reddish brown. It’s been a while since we had a big stock of this, and it is always a hit. We’re also adding some new colours in the size B …

Backlit GemDuos this week at BeadFX

GemDuos! A new shaped bead – similar to the DiamondDuo. They are pretty close in size, the holes are a little closer to the bottom of the bead in the GemDuos, and while they are a little shallower than the DiamondDuo, the higher placement of the holes in the DiamondDuo means that both will sit at the same height in your beadwork. The principle difference, however, is that the GemDuos do not rise to a point on the top like the DiamondDuos, they have a flatter top. There is an excellent review of them here, showing the same patterns made …

Come on Snowflake – show your mettle …

Or, should that be, “show you’re metal?” If last week’s update owed it’s metallic hue to the gleaming glitter of gold, then this week’s theme is the softer, subtler shade of silver and the goth glam of gunmetal. In addition to the above lacey snowflake filigree, we have these rather interesting diamond shaped links, and even more fili-gregious, this rose-window evoking filigree piece, and this dimensional filigree fan piece. These pieces are light enough to be bend around things like cabochons and large stones, so that you can make things with a caged effect – or customizing the shape to …

But it sure looks like it anyway! We have a smallish stash of gold-plated over copper beads – made in India, and perfect for that boho-chic look. Perfect as spacers, …

Stamp, Pour, and Die

If your creative musings are taking you off in other directions than straight beading – and why not? – then you’ll BEE happy to know – we have more of those options for you! In fact, we have a set of options to take you to the edge and right over the border, and if you are drawing a blank, we’re happy to provide a guide. That’s a set of border stamps, a shaped aluminum blank and a guidebook of stickers – that is! I love stamping on the aluminum – possibly because I tried the brass and copper and …

Huichol Beading!

We invite you to try Huichol Beading – and to encourage you – we’re offering 25% off all our seedbeads, shaped beads, and, just for fun – the rhinestones too! What is Huichol Beading? And how do you pronounce it? Huichol beading – pronounced wee-CHOL – is a style of beadwork originating with the indigenous people of the mountain ranges of north central Mexico. The technique is simple – take a pea-sized lump of a wax-pitch mixture, knead in your fingers until soft, flatten out to the size of a quarter, and press onto the item to be decorated. Then …

Lasers!

Lasers! Back in the 60’s – when lasers were developed – so the story goes – the developers described them as “a solution looking for a problem.” Since then – all sorts of problems have come along that they have been solutions for – but I bet you have never thought of this one! Laser Etched Beads! This is something new – beads that have a coating, similar to AB and the other metallic and iridescent coatings, with a pattern etched into the coating with a laser. The work is so delicate that only the coating is effected – there …

Chain – 1 mm Beading Chain – Bright Silver (foot) Chain – 1 mm Beading Chain – Satin Hamilton Gold (foot) Chain – 1 mm Beading Chain – Antiqued Silver (foot) Chain – 1 mm Beading Chain – Bright Gold Plated (foot) …

There’s no gold like Faux Gold …

… like no gold, I know. Actually – I know there is no gold in faux gold, but the point is not the gold, the point is that this is a gold-colored alloy wire that looks like gold all the way through – unlike color-coated wire – which shows a copper core when cut. This is ParaWire’s new Faux Gold wire line-up, which, even when you look at the cut end, appears to be a solid color all the way through. It is also very consistent in color across the sizes, and is a rich, convincing gold color.     …
