InspirationFX: Simplicity in Red – Two

Simplicity in Red – Two Designed by: Anne Marie Desaulniers Though minimalist in style, this set will create quite the impact! A compliment to the “Simplicity in Red” necklace, that was posted a few weeks ago. As the holidays tend to be busy, it’s important to have something simple, to accessorize either that little black dress, or a cozy sweater, and pair of jeans. A fairly economical solution, as you will be using many of those leftover components from the earlier “Inspiration”. You will need to buy another package of the lovely Scarlet faceted rounds though! Instructions: 1. For Bracelet …

InspirationFX: Baby Blue and Earrings

Baby Blue and Earrings Designed by: Dwyn Tomlinson The soft pinks and blues of the Powder Blue Impression Jasper strike me as very soothing and pretty. I went to town and make a whole suite of items from this lovely stone. (Check out previous weeks for more Inspirations) My first thought was to combine gold-plated metal findings and beads with the Powder Blue Impression Jasper, but I found I did not care for the look. The bright copper metal beads and finding – that was another story, however! The combination is gorgeous! The pinky tones of the bright copper perfectly …

InspirationFX: Lovin’ Copper ‘n Lace

Get your creative juices flowing~~~ Lovin’ Copper ‘n Lace Designed by: Anne Marie Desaulniers What came first, the stone or the component? Call it love at first fight!! Instructions: Bracelet: – Construct one wire wrapped loop link (WWLL), consisting of a wire wrapped loop at one …

InspirationFX: Pagoda Earrings

Get your creative juices flowing~~~ Pagoda Earrings Designed by: Pam Kearns One of my favourite classes to teach is Jewellery Making 101 where students create earrings using simple techniques. These projects employ the simplest of techniques to create three uses of the new Open Waterlily flower beads. Check out Snowdrops, my previous Inspiration for another technique. In this project you are using simple loops and wrapped loops to create the earrings. 1. Start by working on the bottom flower first by stacking a 3mm bead onto the headpin and then adding the waterlily bead so that the flower opening facing …

Earring Styles – or – Excuse me – but my ears are ringing

Let’s talk about earrings! or ear rings – as you prefer. Earrings are fun and quick to make – you can easily make up pairs to go with every mood, outfit, holiday, day of the week, etc. Even before I made jewelry – I could easily go more than a month without repeating a pair. Of course, the findings are what make an earring work. A necklace or bracelet is mostly about the content – the beads or whathaveyou – and the clasp is a nice finishing touch. But with earrings – the findings – the mechanical bits, if you …

Dangly Earrings: Using up the Leftover

Some of the best stuff starts as a way to use up left-overs. Think jambalya, trifle, quilts. Well – these dramatic earrings started as a way to use up leftover ends of beading wire, and turned into earrings in their own right! You’ll need some smallish beads – crystals or what-have-you – leftovers are good here too, those left-over ends from when you cut off the Softflex or whatever beading wire you are using. We are going to be folding them in half – so 8 inch pieces will give us 4 inch earrings. If you want to make them …

Earrings as the Main Course – Earrings for Earrings Sake vs Earrings as an Afterthought

A friend confided to me the other day that she was really stumped when it came to earring design. “I can’t seem to get away from the oval bead on a headpin thing,” she admitted. I thought about this for awhile – and decided that: a) earrings fall into two categories – the little coloured accents made out of leftovers from a necklace or bracelet OR earrings made for their own sake, and b) I pretty much suck at them too. Further thought brought me to the conclusion that point a is probably over-simplifying – but I think you get …
