March 2018 Bead Mat Update: A study in contrasts!

I started thinking about my March 2018 bead mat update a couple of weeks ago! However, I wasn’t able to settle down and do anything about it until now! Horrors! I almost missed updating you!! March has been a very busy month! I’m like a butterfly, flitting around, but not really settling in any one place for long. As I’ve said before, I need focus! I may have found a way to clear my head and corral my mind a little. I believe that I showed you my Stitch Meditations before, but I’ve started adding beads to some of them. …

February 2018 Bead Mat Update: A technique extravaganza!

Is my February 2018 bead mat update more of the same? Or is it? Only my readers will know!!! You know that it’s February in Canada, when you get winter, spring, winter, spring, and giant potholes! It’s hard to know what to wear, but I’m certainly glad that we’re in the spring phase right now, for however long it lasts.   I’ve never really liked February in Toronto, because in my home city of Vancouver, you would already be seeing signs of spring. Ha! They got snow last week!!! I know, it won’t last long, and the bulbs will be …

Freeform Fancies and Other Treats!

Immersing yourself in freeform fancies, is a perfectly lovely way to spend the day! Have you every done this? If not, it’s something that you should consider. I love everything about freeform! It doesn’t matter if it’s peyote, bead embroidery, collage, painting, resin, machine, or hand embroidery, it’s all good to me! I taught a freeform peyote bracelet workshop, at BeadFX, to a wonderful, talented, group of students! Nine ladies, and one gentleman. One of the ladies, brought her husband along, so that she would end up with two bracelets. Smart lady! Of course, she picked out the beads, but …

Beading woes! Is this the ending, or just the beginning?

Are you familiar with the subject of beading woes? I feel that finishing a project, brings on a certain kind of emptiness. It can only be satisfied, by starting another project. I don’t have many unfinished projects! I do have components, made for the sake of making! Stash is not the same as unfinished projects! They are teaching experiments! That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!!! Freeform peyote bracelet finished – check! I will use it as a teaching sample (early 2018). Sad to finish, but I will work on another soon! Is that a new beginning? Freeform peyote …

Beading emergency! To bead or not to bead?

What do you do when you have a beading emergency? Do you panic, or just buckle down and get the job done? Your time is precious, so think about this carefully! Today is more of a blogging emergency for me! Turkey day (Canadian Thanksgiving) gifted me with an extra day, to spend quality time with some of my older projects. To my delight, I was able to put three of them to bed (sorry, only in-process photos, this week)! My freeform peyote bracelet, a freeform peyote beaded bead (the one with the fall palette), and a wire embroidered, beaded brooch. …

September 2017 bead mat update: Freeform in all it’s glory!

My September 2017 bead mat update, is all about freeform! Two of the projects are freeform, and I’m recycling fabric scraps in the other. That’s sort of freeform, isn’t it? I love anything that’s either freeform &/or intuitive. No intuitive this month, but boy did I return to freeform! I simply cannot teach a class, without working right alongside my students! That’s the only way I teach! I’ll show them what to do, by demonstrating the technique, on my own project. Then I’ll proceed to the next steps, while letting everyone work at their own pace. At the end of …
