Freeform frolics is an all or nothing, type of beading, and I simply love it. I started by making earrings, graduated to pendants (including some with natural elements), then finished with bracelets. At least for now, that is! I’ve always been fascinated with freeform peyote, so much so that I joined the Freeform Peyote Beading Facebook group, and lurked there for quite a while, before posting any of my work. Why random thoughts and beauty shots? I didn’t have anything else planned, but thought that you might be interested, in everything else that I’ve been working on. First, the freeform peyote stone, I started on January 19th, in my Freeform Peyote Explorations workshop. I beaded like crazy, and am happy to have it finished. But I confess that it did become quite the obsession! Isn’t that always the case? My January 2020 bead mat update, is a work in progress! Also, I forgot to photograph some of my pieces on a bead mat, but that doesn’t worry me one little bit! My Explorations in Freeform Peyote class ran last weekend, and this is the project that I worked on. Yes, another stone, but with a different colour scheme, and I’m beading again!!! Is it time yet, but why do you ask? It’s actually past time, but then that’s something that you’ll just need to deal with. Of course, when I ask “Is it time yet?”, I’m alluding to the fact that the holidays are drawing very close, but what does that mean to you? Canadian content is a must, due to the fact that we just celebrated Canada Day! I hope you don’t mind that it’s all about me!! I worked on Saturday, but then had three whole days off in a row! Fun with Freeform!

The fact that I have fun with freeform, is probably no surprise to most of you. I bead it, I stitch it, then sometimes even combine the two! It’s an intuitive way of working, that allows you to create, without following a traditional pattern. It is a fairly free way of working, but still requires a certain amount of order. Without that, there would be chaos! This one, entitled “Worms”, is a little chaotic, but it was an experiment, that just kept on giving. I still love it!! When I say mix it up, what do you suppose I mean? I’m not really sure, but it’s a subject that we’re going to explore! I call myself a Mixed-Up Media Artist, and that’s because I like to play with just about anything. Beads, paint, alcohol inks, stitch, fabric, resin, concrete, paper, stones. Also, enamel, polymer clay, felting, metal, rusty objects, and even driftwood. But is there anything else out there that I’m missing? My May 2019 bead mat update is late in the month, but then so is spring in Toronto! But here it is, and believe it or not, we’ve even had a few, very nice days. Peyote Stitch: A dream of a stitch!

I must admit that peyote stitch is my favourite bead weaving stitch! I adore the simplicity of this stinking stitch! Believe it or not, I actually followed the rules, in the early days! The three bracelets shown below, illustrate the start of my addiction! The one with the bugle beads, was made in a class I took with Marilyn Parker & Maureen Warland (George Brown College), many, many years ago. Not only that, but bead soup contains zero calories! Doesn’t that sound impossibly fantastic? I must confess that I actually stole the bead soup idea from one of Dwyn’s recent Instagram posts, for beadfxbeads (it also posted our Facebook page).
