Convertable Jade

This month's Celebrity Designer Challenge involves a gi-normous brass plaque and some vintage glass beads.

Wore it already and got tons of compliments at work. It is a necklace and a belt. A convertible piece of jewellery - two for the price of one!

Using a nail file I smoothed out the rough edges on the back of the filigree focal, so that there would be no catches against material or skin.

Next using 20 gauge artistic wire in brass colour, I attached a large square frame at one end and some chain at the other. The length of chain I used equaled my waist measurement plus about 10 inches. By wearing the connected chain and brass filigree pendant combo around your waist, determine which length is comfortable for you as a belt. Mark the hole in the chain with a piece of string or tape.

Using oval jump rings, start by attaching a starfish charm to the chain where the comfortable length is. From there, still using the oval jump rings, start adding in the other charms and jade glass components, two per chain hole - one per side.

In the last chain, the piece that dangles, I added on of each charm and 4 jade glass pieces.

I did some freeform wire wrapping and adding beads to the filigree piece. I used the same 20 gauge wire - but I wouldn't recommend that large a gauge - very hard to manipulate through the openings. Use 24 or even 26 gauge.

To wear as a belt, use a necklace shortener to secure the chain after it has gone through the square frame, by putting the shortener through the frame and the chain.

To wear as a necklace, centre the focal at the top of your decollete, wrap the chain around your neck twice and through the square frame - tres chic!
