It's a Black and White Issue!

I love working in black and white (or in this case, black and clear)! In this piece I used the texture of the onyx and quartz chips against the 16mm faceted round beads. For a hint of sparkle, I threw in some metal bead caps on either side of the round beads.

To construct the necklace, I used two lengths of 8 lb crystal fireline, putting both pieces through the round beads (and bead caps) then strung on 1.5" of chips on each strand of the fireline. I kept repeating the pattern, ending with a round bead. I tried to keep the chips alternating in colour, but in the end it's going to move around anyway as you wear it, so don't worry too much about it. You can thread the separate strands of fireline onto a beading needle of your choice to make it easier to string on the chips and go through the round beads.

To finish, I pulled both strands of fireline through the clamshell tip, and slipped a size 11/0 seed bead onto on the strands and tied the two pieces of fireline together using a surgeon's knot. Because fireline can slip, I added a drop of New Super Glue to the knot for security. Trim the fireline and carefully close the clamshell tip around the seedbead and knotted end. Do this on both ends of the necklace.

Use a pair of roundnose pliers to create a loop on the clamshell. Attach the clasp to the clamshell using a jump ring. I used a swivel toggle for the closure for ease of use.

Of course, you can customize it by using other colours of stone chips and beads!
