InspirationFX: Jet Set

InspirationFXGet your creative juices flowing Jet Setby: Lee Metsalo Glamorous Amber and Jet – a fabulous combination for looking oh-so-chic and “polished and put-together.” The two strands are connected by linking into a single bead with a loop on each side, which is then connected to the clasp. This makes for a nice, compact clasp area without the bulk of a lot of strands. (See photos with pink arrows.) Each strand is strung with the beads in a slightly different order – with a centered bead in the longer strand, and offset beads in the shorter strand. The shorter strand …

The Business Chat – Who’s coming to the show?

With a huge sigh of relief I put away the last of my receipts thinking I was all finished with horrible admin tasks. Then heck, it happened. I looked at the calendar and realized, crap, it’s January 14 and I have a craft show application due on the 15th (the show is next November).  ARGH! Good thing I looked at the calendar and an even better thing that I had written that deadline down. So I deferred the sigh of relief and I filled out one more application. When you are starting your crafty business there is no faster way …

Found!

This bracelet has been kicking around in our lost and found for, well, years. Since moving from our last location. We really are a group of people who can’t throw anything out … Anyone recognize it? It’s really too pretty to toss.  This is the box it was in.

OOooOO shiny! And Not so Shiny.

Installment three of the saga of the size 11/0 Miyuki seedbeads. This brings the grand total up to 218 active colours. I’m sure you can find something you like in all of these! Speaking of sagas – how about a little archeological romp – a la Indiana Jones? Maybe a trip to Ancient Rome – get Caught in De Nile, search for the Golden Chalice, or take a final walk over the Bridge of Sighs (which is not over the Euphrates, by the way.) Yes – it’s more of our fabulous Un-Buried Treasures – wonderful beads that evoke ancient burials, …

Getting to know…Liz Reynolds

Liz Reynolds is a devotee of Hadar’s Clay and she has been busy introducing this powdered metal clay to lots of students. A creative person by nature, Liz began early adding personal touches to many things. “I’ve tended to largely focus on one medium at a time,” says Liz. “When I was much younger I really liked sewing and sewed a lot of my own clothes. I then moved into pottery and for the better part of a decade, I made my living (such as it was) from pottery. Later I learned how to knit, but it was pretty basic. …

InspirationFX: Round Up

InspirationFXGet your creative juices flowing Round Upby: Dwyn Tomlinson When I saw these rusty, rustic pendants, I knew I had to do something with them – because, well, they have horses. Horses and dragons – can’t resist either one, but horses do have the advantage of being real, actual creatures that you can ride. I did struggle with the design for this, I don’t mind telling you. This turned out a little dressier than the casual, funky look that I had in mind, but that’s okay. It’s not so dressy that you can’t find an occasion to wear it, and …

InspirationFX: Northern Heart

InspirationFXGet your creative juices flowing Northern Heartby: Lee Metsalo Scintillating like the Aurora – dancing green flames – charged particles from the sun, writhing and slithering over the protective magnetic shields of the Earth – the green sparkle of the Silver Silk Pearlesque Capture echoes and reflects the green highlights of the Luminous Green Crystal Heart. And plenty of time to put together this romantic and dramatic piece before Valentine’s Day too! The hand-made bail is easily adapted to other pendant shapes too! To make the bail – take about 10 inches of wire and slide the pendant on to …
