InspirationFX: Punch it Up

InspirationFXGet your creative juices flowing Punch it Upby: Bonnie Cottingham Punch it up – this is a punchy design – loaded with colour and pop, and super easy to execute! The advantage of sharing ideas with the rest of the gals at BeadFX is that if there is a missing element in your design, someone will have a great suggestion! This can, of course, take your original idea in a whole new direction and bring new materials into the mix! So thank you, Rochelle – for your help with this inspiration! And congratulations to Bonnie for her first inspiration published …

InspirationFX: Memories

InspirationFX Get your creative juices flowing Memories by: Lee Metsalo This handsome “torsade” – twisted necklace – evokes memories, stone beaches, coppery pearls, inky jet chips – it all reminds me of … something – just on the tip of my tongue … . The key to keeping the twisted strands is to secure them in the twist. Label or memorized the order of the strands, i.e., lay them out as “pearls, chips, stones,” and then twist the three strands tightly. (Remember – this will make the strands shorter – so allow for that when picking your length.) When you …

The Business Chat – What is that?

It’s an exciting week over here at Sailorgirl Jewelry. My new and improved website should launch at some point!!! This project has been in the works for months, chugging away in the background, worked on during the crazy holiday show season and sidelined by details like Christmas. All in good time, it’s almost done! To celebrate the launch I am updating my online store with over 30 new items. You know what? Listing 30 new items is a HUGE amount of work! With the new site I’ve committed to listing one new item every week for 2014 and with that …

Just back from Tucson

Well, I’m back from Tucson – Marg is still there, still rounding up restock and buying more new stuff. Now that I have access to a “real” computer and am not trying to do stuff from just my phone, I thought I’d show you all the pics I took from the Swarovski presentation. We got a private presentation this year, sitting on the patio at Tucson. It was a little chilly for sitting outside actually – but hey – it’s not Canada – so we’re good!  Just click on the image to see it larger, in all it’s splendor. Each …

The Pitter Patter of Tiny Seedbeads

You know the sound, the “whoosh, pitter-pitter-pitter, roll-roll-roll, bounce, poiiiing” of falling seedbeads – punctuated with language that would make a sailor blush. Unless they fall on carpet – in which case – all you hear is the swearing! For occasions like this – it’s worth learning another language to swear in. If you feel the need to have even more opportunities to spill seedbeads – you are in luck, as we have 46 new colours of Size 15/0 Miyuki seedbeads for you! Size 15/0s are small – about 1 x 1.7 mm – so these are great for when …

InspirationFX: Dalmatia

InspirationFX Get your creative juices flowing Dalmatia by: Lee Metsalo Dalmatia! Which came first, the dog or the country? Well – the country – but this historic area of Croatia was renown for it’s sheep, whose wool made fine vestments which became known as Dalmatics. The dog also came from the area, and the distinctive spotted coat lent it’s name to this variety of Jasper! This knotted necklace is long enough to just pop over your head (assuming you don’t have really big hair!) and so you don’t need a clasp. A knot between each bead keeps them spaced out …
