May 2018 Bead Mat Update: Two steps back, one step forward!

My May 2018 bead mat update signals a return to my roots. Fibre has always been my first love, and I must admit that I’m enjoying the process immensely.

Did my Stitch Meditations have anything to do with my current obsession with fibre? I certainly expect so!
What if I combined fibre, beads, embroidery, felting, and natural elements? Isn’t that what I’m all about? My muse was whispering insistently, so I just had to shut her up!!

This stitched stone has been sitting on the sidelines for a while, but I decided to finish it off with freeform peyote, just last weekend. I still intend to use it as a needle keeper, but now it’s a fancier one! I’m happy with it, but I don’t think that I’m finished with stones yet!

While digging through my fabrics, I came across an embarrassing amount of wool roving. I don’t really have time to do any wet felting right now, but needle felting is quick! So why not whip up a few needle felted, landscape pendants, and add embroidery and beads? They already have a fan base, and the boss has even requested the blue/purple one for her trip to Bead & Button in June. Do you think I should give it to her? Sigh! Now I’ll need to make another rectangular one, in that colourway (also a favourite of mine). I think that I have another one of those bezels in my stash, but if not I know where I can buy one! LOL!

Speaking of fabrics, and my May 2018 bead mat update, what do you think of my mixed media, fibre collage pendants? One is definitely a pendant, but the other two would also be suitable as brooches. Perhaps they could be both! A pendant that converts to a brooch; or a brooch that converts to a pendant! It’s decision time!!

What’s a sunny holiday Monday (thank you Queen Victoria), without a trip to the beach? Stone and driftwood collecting of course, but also time for a little exercise, fresh air, photos, and allergies. What will I do with all those natural elements? A few more stitched stones of course, and perhaps even a workshop. As for the allergies, an Advil, Kleenex, and a short nap!

That’s it for my May 2018 bead mat update! Perhaps I will return to more traditional beading in June, but for now I’m loving the look, and feel of my old friends!
