If you like leftovers, you’ll love bead mixes (also known as bead soup)!
What do you do, when you’ve finished a project? Some of you choose to re-sort them, but my preference is to jumble them up into a pile! I love to make bead mixes out of them, corralled in small containers, then saved for rainy days! Or, should I say new projects!!!
Starting a bead embroidery, or freeform peyote project, requires a combination of new, and stash seedbeads. I add a dash of accent beads, then pour small, tidy piles of beads onto the bead mat. I don’t leave them alone, so they seldom stay that way! Bead soup all the way!!
If you chose all the beads for your projects, because you loved them, why would you waste all that effort by re-sorting into separate containers? Okay, perhaps you were either bored, or tired at the end, but what about when you’re stuck for a new project? Bead soup to the rescue!
They’re perfect as a jumping off place, for bead embroidery, beaded art dolls, freeform peyote (earrings, rings, bracelets, pendants), beaded beads, stitch markers, or key chains. They can even be used for simple, strung necklaces and bracelets! I’ve even used my bead mixes to embellish beach stones!!
Not everyone is willing to have a mixed pile of unused beads just laying around! Others need more order!! There are even some, and you know who you are, who buy Auntie Gwen mixes, then delight in separating every, single, bead!!! Okay, truth be told, I think that’s a little extreme! Who has time for that? I’d rather be creating!!!
Although I’m addicted to mixing my own, there’s something to be said about pre-made bead mixes! Have you spotted some of the lovely ones that BeadFX sells? Auntie Gwen’s hand mixes (frequently mixed by little old me!), Czech ColourFX, and Toho seed bead mixes! But what about larger glass and stone bead mixes, you say? We even have those available! I’m particularly fond of the Czech glass mixes! They’re quite yummy, for a quick and dirty bracelet or two! Also, if you come into the store, we even have Uncle Glen’s Czech glass mixes, for you to root through, and pick your own mix! Sorry, not available on-line!
Take all that time you normally spend sorting beads, then put it to better use exercising your creativity! I promise that when you make projects out of your bead mixes, you’ll be more satisfied with the end result! I know that I will!
