I almost hate to write my August 2018 Bead Mat Update, because that means that the summer is almost over. It’s still stinking hot in Toronto, but I wonder how long that will last?
Kids go back to school, adults breath a sigh of relief, traffic jams increase, and the bead goes on!!!
BeadFX customers start gearing up for the holidays (I can’t believe that I just wrote that), and the workshop season shifts into high gear (our Back To Class Open House is on September 8th)! It’s still warm outside, but we’re all itching for a change of pace.
First up for the August 2018 Bead Mat Update, are my ongoing Stitch Meditations! If you’ve been following me on either Facebook, or Instagram (amd_artfuldreamer), you’ll know that I’m now up to 88 SM’s. As I’m only planning on making 100 in this series, I’m well on the way to success! Yes, they’re still sitting in a box, and no, I haven’t decided what I’m going to do with them yet!
I seem to be in a bracelet making mood, so I’ve been playing with stone beads, strung on Softlex beading wire, and finished with Sterling Silver findings. They do take a little longer, but the results are oh so satisfying! Expect to see more of these in the future, as I string my way out of a stone overload!!!
I’m always playing around with ideas for new classes, because I just can’t seem to shut off my creative mind. So, next up on the August 2018 Bead Mat Update, are tassels!!! Okay, I really never intended to make tassels (I’ve never liked them all that much), but how could I help it? My mild obsession started with the Sari Silk tassel, then extended to Coral Fringe. I did make one more, but it’s still in the Plain Jane stage, so I decided not to show it.
The Sari Silk Tassel is topped with both a bead cap, and a layer of freeform peyote (I thought that it was a little too plain, and needed to be tarted up!). I feel that it might be a little large for a necklace, but it would be perfect hanging from either a purse or a lampshade.
I’ve avoided making Coral Fringe for years, but now I absolutely love it! This tassel will definitely end up at the end of a long necklace, but not yet, as I’m still working out the logistics. These classes are not on the schedule yet (I do have others that are), but watch for them in either late fall, or winter!
Isn’t this Sleeping Beauty turquoise stone lovely? One day, I decided that I just had to have something small and simple, to hang from a Sterling chain. The turquoise was not purchased from BeadFX this time, but rather from a BeadFX customer, Amanda H. All it needed was a simple wire wrapped loop, topped with a Sterling Silver, BeadFX bail.
Natural dyed, tea and rust stained papers, are next up in my August 2018 Bead Mat Update. I will make a book out of them. Or I will swap them! But, I will definitely make more!
My August 2018 Bead Mat Update was a complete surprise! I’ve been more creative than I thought! How about you? Have you been creating, or just relaxing this summer? It’s all good, but inquiring minds want to know!!
