We all make colour choices in our lives? Do you play it safe, or are you willing to go against the masses?
The premier colour master, for people who follow trends, is Pantone! They put out a report that predicts the colours that fashion, paint, and interior design gurus, are likely to follow during a certain period. The Colour of the Year for 2019, is called “Living Coral”. A fresh, but somewhat meh colour for me, but if you’re interested, we do have a nice Swarovski Pearl in Coral. However, this would probably not be one of my colour choices for 2019. Yes, I can actually wear that colour, but I’ve rarely purchased it! Lipstick, or nail polish perhaps, to liven up the greys in my wardrobe, but that’s probably it!
The rest of the spring 2019 colour choices appear to be quieter, and more subdued than previous seasons. Either that, or my computer monitor needs adjusting!! Subdued colours are not for everyone, but who am I to say, so you be the judge!
I’m a firm believer that people like the colours, that they like! Do you like purple? It’s my observation, that an awful lot of beaders do!!! Followed closely by blue, turquoise, and aqua. I’m talking about the colours they wear, and dye their hair with, yet not necessarily the colours they bead! Beaders love, what beaders love!! Do rebels care about trends?
Dwyn dug some pretty amazing stones, out of a long-forgotten trove, last week! Amethyst, Amazonite, Lapis Lazuli, Turquoise (sorry, all sold), Orange Sodalite, and more! Amazing quality, and oh so yummy! Do the colour choices sound familiar? I could even say that the Orange Sodalite might have a hint of “Living Coral” in it! Would that be stretching the truth? I think not!
I love the stunning beauty of Lapis, and confess that I purchased the last string of faceted cubes just yesterday! But it’s not really a surprise, because blue has always been my favourite colour. The temptation is just awful, but I do work in an amazing bead store!!! Would you believe that I still have a pair of round lapis stud earrings (hanging around somewhere), that I probably purchased in the late 70’s or early 80’s? I never liked wearing them! They didn’t sit right on my ears, because they were too heavy, but I just couldn’t bear to part with them. Sigh!
Check out the colour choices, but don’t be afraid to buck the trends, and buy exactly what you like. Let yourself be tempted, then splurge on the good stuff every once and a while. You deserve it!
On a sadder note, a very inspiring American poet, the amazing Mary Oliver, passed away last week. Here are just a few of her memorable quotes:
“As long as you’re dancing, you can break the rules. Sometimes breaking the rules is just extending the rules. Sometimes there are no rules.”
“You must not ever stop being whimsical. And you must not, ever, give anyone else the responsibility for your life.”
“The most regretful people on earth are those who felt the call to creative work, who felt their own creative power restive and uprising, and gave to it neither power nor time.”
“maybe death isn’t darkness, after all, but so much light wrapping itself around us. “
Sleep gently, dear Mary…
