It’s March, and it’s definitely time for a creativity check! The weather outside is not telling me that it’s spring, but my heart is still longing for it!
I suffer from the winter doldrums, but not because of the cold! It’s because winter is just so long in this part of the world. I grew up in Vancouver, B.C., where signs of spring, start popping up in early February, while the rest of us just have freezing temperatures! Sigh!
Back to the creativity check! February is finished, March is here, and I need to learn something new!!!! I’m going to make that happen, even if it kills the schedule!!
I signed up for a local Deconstructed Screen-Printing workshop in April (but not with Kerr), and I’m excited that March, marks the beginning of my year-long, Creative Strength Training class with Jane Dunnewold. I’m still going strong with the Stitch Meditations group (two separate series –2” x 2” Twinchies, and a long Scroll), but unfortunately, I haven’t been able to even make a start on the Bead Journal Project. Plus, I have a looming deadline for mid-March, that will put a hold on most of my other projects, for a couple of weeks! Colour me overwhelmed!
But where is my beading? I’ll fit it in, I promise, but that’s where the creativity check is going to help. Jane’s CST course has already started me thinking, yet I haven’t had time to do more than glimpse at her videos, and exercises. Not to mention, start to journal about my revelations! But first, I need to prepare a fabulous journal cover, for said journal!! Oh my! Some of the samples I’m seeing, are luscious painted, and stitched beauties, but I shouldn’t be envious! Mine will be wonderful as well! I can’t show everyone else’s, but I do promise to show you mine, when the cover is done.
Did I mention that I’ve never been disciplined enough to journal about anything? I didn’t even keep a diary as a child!! But this year I vow to change that!!! My friend gave me a couple of journals, and to my surprise, I’ve actually started I using one of them! Now I wish that I had saved that journal for CST purposes! Perhaps I’ll just start adding those notes to it as well.
On top of all that creativity, I will need to come up with a handful of new classes for the summer. Note: it’s not even spring, and I’m thinking about summer! See how good I am to you? I do have ideas, but I need to spend quality time with my needle and thread (and beads, of course), before revealing the results. Surprise, I’ve even sketched a few of those ideas in my journal, and jotted down notes!
With CST, I will spend 2019 in a state of information overload, but I must remember to keep an open mind! Both Stitch Meditations, and the Bead Journal Project will help to keep me grounded, but will I have room for anything else? I certainly hope so!
Now don’t you think that it’s time to give yourself a creativity check? Think seriously about what you’re doing with your creativity, then start to shake it up! Take a long walk, visit the beach, jot down some notes, write a story, read a book, take a class, or just pull out your fabric, and/or beads. Think of that wise child within, and just play!
